I must be immune to these prices since the USDA Choice Top Loin I get always seems to be about $13/lb, and there isn't enough demand at that price to make it go higher. That said, at my local Wal-Mart, I do notice that when the butcher swings by to offer up the "Manager's Special" to such cuts that only have a day left before expiration, it quickly gets taken.

It's OVER for CheapRedMeatCels.

That's how I have been buying meat for a long time.

I typically only buy if there is at least 4 days left, which allows me to eat 2 days in a row, skip a day, and eat one last day - or if I can get a small enough package, cook everything left on the 2nd day and have some leftover.

Beef prices are near record highs. Too much drought, inflation, and high grain, hay prices have led to farmers/ranchers cutting back on the number of cattle they run. The nations herd size is also lower than its ever been. Demand is high while the supply has dwindled drives the price up. You'll see prices come back down when ranchers turn out more cows that produce more calves and the inventory gets back up. Give it 2 more years.

Do you really want to be eating that GMO chemical and MSG induced thing anyways? If you are going to be eating meat, eat it at your local farmers butchery that is grown organically and naturally. Besides it's way better to be a vegetarian these days and have a diet full of vegetables, fruits and legumes/nuts with natural supplements.

There is no difference between the animal that goes to one of Cargill's packing houses to be processed or your local meat processor. They can be grown the same way and out of the same herd. Both can be labeled organic if they werent given antibiotics/hormones.
