Attorney Ahn elaborated on the financial reasoning behind the decision: "If we estimate Jung Woo Sung's assets based on a 2021 blog post, he earned over 700 million won (approximately $525,000 USD) per CF, accumulated more than 40 billion won (approximately $30 million USD) from advertising revenue, and owns real estate worth over 20 billion won (approximately $15 million USD). This brings his total assets to at least 60 billion won (approximately $45 million USD). If he were to marry and then divorce, he would likely lose 30% of his wealth, which amounts to 18 billion won (approximately $13.5 million USD) after five years or 30 billion won (approximately $22.5 million USD) after 10 years. Of course, individuals with such significant wealth may negotiate smaller settlements, but he would still have to part with at least 10 billion won (approximately $7.5 million USD)."
He contrasted this with the financial impact of only providing child support, saying, "If he doesn’t marry and instead pays child support, even at the highest income bracket, it would only amount to about 3 million won per month. Over 18 years, that totals 720 million won. Realistically, Jung Woo Sung would likely provide more than 3 million won per month—perhaps 10 to 20 million won—but even at that rate, it’s far less expensive than the potential costs of divorce. From a purely financial perspective, marriage carries far greater risk."
