Have any of you considered plastic surgery or had it done?

I had braces and dentofacial orthopedics growing up to fix a severe overjet/overbite. The overbite is pretty much fixed, but when I look in the mirror and see my profile; I don't like the way my chin recedes slightly, and it makes my already generous sized nose appear even bigger.

To give you a visual, I do resemble Christopher (Michael Imperioli) from the Soprano's, but I consider myself more handsome and my nose is not as big as his. I actually don't mind my nose, it is big and pointy, but it is at least straight.

I have thought about getting a chin implant or sliding genioplasty (cost is about 7500 to 10K)

However, how do people react if a man get's work done? I think it's acceptable for women since they are expected to be concerned about their appearance, but what about men?

If I could afford it, and if had certain physical traits to justify doing it, yes I would consider it. I guess it would also depend how risky it is, not sure how safe rhinoplasties are. Chin/jaw surgery can make a huge difference, though I'd probably look into something like mewing first and see if that works.

The typical argument against this is to just "own it" but saying you need to own it implies it's enough of a problem to do mental gymnastics to insist you don't care about it. You do care, that's just it, and faking you don't won't change anything. Regardless, whether you're secure with it or not doesn't mean it won't impact your physical attractiveness. Getting plastic surgery doesn't make you "fake", if anything, it can come from a place of sincerity and be considered "owning it" by addressing the problem and fixing it, improving your confidence. Not much different than the copes that many bald men profess, instead of acknowledging the reality of hair restoration.

Why would you care ? Do it for you. You dont have to justify or explain anything,to anyone. If you want to do it,go ahead,and be proud

"Doing it for yourself" is the biggest cope, with very few exceptions. If you were alone on an island, things like improving your appearance would make zero sense to want to do. There's nothing wrong with wanting to improve your appearance for the sake of others, we've social creatures and evolutionary hardwired to want that, so why not just admit it instead of delude yourself into thinking it's not?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to improve your appearance for the sake of others, we've social creatures and evolutionary hardwired to want that, so why not just admit it instead of delude yourself into thinking it's not?

In that case, sure. I guess i'm triggered now when I hear that expression, since it's repeated ad nauseaum. In this case a more accurate alternative would have been "trust your own judgment".
