Any Jaguar Car Drivers?

These cars look good, but I hear they are incredibly unreliable & cost a fortune in repairs & parts.

Your distance from the nearest dealership is an important consideration. Where I live, no one works on a jag but a dealer, and the nearest one is two hours away, which is a long and expensive tow truck ride.

Also keep in mind that luxury car dealers like to throw in "free lifetime oil changes," because the point is to get you back into the dealership to find other things wrong with your car. My local Mercedes dealership's service department has about a $2,000 typical service bill per customer, and a lot of those people just came in for the free oil change.

Yeah, I drive one, an old-school XJ6. I've had the car donkey's years and love it. Before that I had a Mercedes C-Class and, to be honest, there's not much difference in reliability between the two - although I always keep my cars well serviced and in good condition.

A Jaguar will cost you a bit more to run than most cars but not greatly so, especially if you find a good specialist to work on your car rater than take it to a main dealer. Jaguars are nevertheless a lot less expensive to run than a Maserati or other exotica,

A decent Jaguar shouldn't really cost you any more to run than a BMW or similar 'excecutive' motor. Personally, I like the Jaguar because it's more of a gentleman's car. To me, it's the thinking man's option.

Some are worse than others. When I had my Mercedes, I drove to a specific one because the one near me was known to pull crap like that.

Good point man, I was actually thinking about maybe calling dealerships in around a reasonable distance from me, and first establish who can work on Jaguar Cars, in the eventuality something goes wrong.

It's an older model I am looking at, Jaguar XF 3 litre engine. They look highly sophisticated cars.

I remember Jaguar was considered an older gentlemans car, retirement age old man in his 60s kinda thing lol.

Very nice car which will be no more or less reliable than the equivalent Mercedes or BMW to be honest.

Buy well and have a good specialist keep it in good fettle. You'll have a something a bit different and feel a big special when you drive it.

Jaguar and Land Rover products perennially top the list of the most unreliable cars on sale. Those cars break down all the time even when new. I can't imagine what owning a 10+ year old one would be like. You hardly ever see the XF not he road anymore, even though they were fairly popular when they came out win the late 2000's.

BTW, the British car I've always had a fancy for was the Triumph TR-7.

I like the heritage of the Land Rover as being a tamer of the African wilds, although Toyota has taken over there.

Jaguar made some sexy coupe over the years. E-type, F-type, first generation XK. Some nice sedans too, particularly pre-2010 XJ's. Too bad the Brits could never figure out how to make a car that doesn't break down twice a week.

Having Owned British Bikes and Land Rovers going back to the series one,the thing that amazes me is they have never learned to make an Oil seal!...Jags are something else,The style the elegance and the underrated muscle...Driving the Old MK2 Jag was fantastic,you sank back into the Connolly Leather seats,smelt the Burl walnut Dash,surveyed the plethora of instrumentation and you are Jack the Man,clunking through the gearbox like snapping carrots,you eye the German in front as you close in from 12 o'clock and you prepare to give the trigger a squeeze and blast him with your six .303 machine guns,then the Oil light starts Flashing...Bvugger it gott'a call roadside assistance LOL.

Nope. They are giant money pits. Expensive parts, expensive repairs since not many mechanics are trained with them and they require extra training meaning you get charged more for it.

Also very unreliable even with basic things that should never go wrong on cars these days.

If I was going to spend a bunch of money on a car I'd buy a Lexus, at least I would know it's hardly ever going to need repairs or maintenance.

You guys confirmed pretty much every thing I have read and heard about jaguar through research.. They are prone to issues and cost an arm and legs in repair and service.

I believe the Audi, Lexus or even Mazda is a better option.

Had a midget in my 20’s that thing was a total shyte show. Fun to look at and drive, but it went through two motors and a few windshields while I opened it.

None of that is true - and I know, I've driven a Jaguar for many years, and a Mercedes before that.

Jaguar got a bad reputation when British Leyland took them over in the 1970s. Things have changed greatly over time though and most of the running gear isn't company specific nowadays either.

The gear box is the same one as goes in equivalent Mercedes, the engine is basically Ford. So they're as reliable as most other cars - apart from Japanese stuff which is more reliable than any European car.
