So many motivational videos preach grinding... lack of sleep.. pushing yourself when your exhausted... killing the b!tch inside of you. It’s BS.....

The last two months I’ve embarked on a journey to get diced and in the best cardio condition of my life. Built up to running nearly 40 miles a week... lifting 5 days a week... eating ridiculously clean.

last week I felt drained so i pushed myself 3 straight days... a 9 mile run, 7 and an all out timed 4 mile run. I could barely get out of bed last Friday.... still got up...ate.. went to work and before bed got a lift in.

Last weekend it hit me... I couldn’t talk... could barely breath.... finally took it easy.... kept getting worse... and worse.... Tuesday went to my doctor ox saturation dangerously low... double pneumonia.

unless your on copious ammounts of performance enhancing drugs you need rest....if you don’t listen to your body.... it will say f you and shut you down. On the bright side I am down 12 pounds ... feel emancipated and will destroy as much food as humanity possible today!

its a culture thats been bred through social media and influencing and applies to almost all niches

I always ask what exactly is the end goal of all this "grinding" there's only so big , so rich , so successful a person can get before it becomes counter intuitive

Nonsense bread from human need for progress and insecurity

This pretty much sums it up. If any of the people in those types of videos actually live like that for sustained periods (unlikely) they probably are prone to manic/narcissistic episodes of high energy and delusion (possibly adderall based), there's no other explaination, this GO GO GO attitude does not work for 99% of people past a certain point.

Grinding/hustling is a meme for the 100 IQ npc's, truly successful people know that consistency, balance, small habits, and overall lifestyle is what matters.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Going without sleep doesn't sound productive. I've done it, but it wasn't really by choice. You perform better when rested and healthy. Consistency is the most important thing to strive for.

The main thing you're killing with lack of sleep is your adrenal function, OP.

These youtubers you watch only have an audience because their audience uses the content maker and other audience members as a support group.

Most people don't live past 77, in shape or not. Don't waste time, make the most of what you've got on Earth.

Are you taking anything for it? I only had it once and now I am on medication for the rest of my life. Never had another episode tho.

Also could get an ablation but there is no guarantee it will work the first time and sometimes need it to be done 2-3 times to eliminate it.

OP I am with you.

I was going to make a post right now saying the same thing. Last year I did a very slow cut. All I did was 45 mins lifting every 2 days. Heavy and hard and great diet but not a massive amount of work as it’s a cut. I didn’t lose weight really rapidly but I looked good, libido off the charts.

recently I went hard, cut cals and trained really hard. I did 2.5 hours at the gym on Sunday to compensate for a night on the wine. I immediately got sick, for 3 days I was depressed.

for me, it’s a choice. If you want to cut weight (mostly muscle) then restrict cals and don’t train hard. If you want to train you WILL need LOTS of rest and very good nutrition - especially in a cut.

I’ve learned less is more. Consistent progressive overload and ample recovery is way, way better than crushing it and dying for a week.

@BackInTheGame78 made this point to me before and he’s totally right. Don’t do stupid cardio sessions to get big deficits.

I actually am coming to the conclusion you CAN have some very low cal days but just not around hard training. My wife took me to dinner last night so I ate tons. Today I’m fasting till evening. This is a better idea IMO than going to the gym for hours so I’m broken down and then eating not much.

fasting and rest is a better way to cut cals than stupid amounts of cardio/weights.
It’s like you have to work with your body and be nice to it to encourage it to work with you. Push against it and it fks you up. My mental health after those “crush it” sessions was horrible. I’m a positive guy but for 3 days I wanted to end it almost, such was the impact of hard training without adequate rest and nutrition.

after weeks and months of gradual improvement and good recovery and what I find is the most important aspect - progressive improvement…even if it’s one rep, 2lb on a lift. Muscles need a signal basically to do more…your sessions will look like crushing it but you gotta get there gradually.

exactly how I felt...l was able to sustain this for awhile but my body said f you. I actually thought I might want to slow down and resume this in the spring for my cut. I did not have much bf to start and I was waking up looking absolutely shredded.... it became addicting.

now I’m still spitting up phlegm and feeling like garbage because it’s been over a week since I’ve been in the gym. My holiday plans also shot.... had a decent thanksgiving but Friday was exhausted and stayed in to sleep so I missed a get together with friends and yesterday had to bolt on an event we all wanted to attend together because I was hacking all day.

I should know better in 2002 I was on a similar path... killing myself in the gym....started getting sick ... kept pushing... ended up with a much worse case of pneumonia. That was when my long time girlfriend broke the news to me she found someone else and that was that I was out of commission for 2 months and nearly lost my mind but found this site! On the bright side I only have to deal with this illness now...and not some soul crushing dumping lol!

going forward slow and steady will be the way!

Watching a few too many David Goggins videos?

Glad you figured this out. Recovery is just as, if not more, important than training itself. Rest days are just part of my routine at this point. Feel better, OP.

One of the reasons people don't live long (or develop dementia) is because they don't get enough sleep.

Painting things black and white with a broad brush will get you nowhere. You discovered your limits and the value of adequate rest and recovery. Simply re-adjust and continue pushing at a more sustainable rate. Personally I'm prone to RSI if I lift every day, because I regularly push myself through pain to dangerous levels. As a result I adjusted to lifting every other day with cardio on rest days, giving my body 48 hours to recover from the lifts. I haven't had RSI in years. Find your sweet spot, which will not be black or white, but a unique shade of gray.

Not yet. This just started two weeks ago. It might be pvc’s. I need to go see a cardiologist
