The Spanish footballer Jenni Hermoso has filed a criminal complaint accusing Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish football federation, of sexual assault over the unsolicited kiss he gave her after the Women’s World Cup final, the Spanish prosecutor’s office has said.

The complaint comes after prosecutors at the country’s top criminal court said they were investigating the incident – in which Rubiales grabbed Hermoso by the head, pulled her towards him and planted a kiss on her lips – amid concerns that there may be grounds for sexual assault charges. As part of the investigation, Hermoso was invited to file a formal complaint.

Under a recently passed sexual consent law, Rubiales could face a fine or between one and four years in prison if found guilty of sexual assault, it added.

Kissing a girl on the lips you have been sexually escalating with vs kissing a random girl on the lips to start sexual escalation are two different things. I can agree with you up to a point. Me still thinks getting the government/ahotorities involved and suing him over a kiss on the lips and calling it assault seems a bit much. If she´s not interested, a slap on the face, laughing to his face mocking him, or just being a general b1tch about it would have been more than enough.

Apparantly this whole sexism/chauvanism thing is big in Spain at the moment. So,this case has become a sort of lightening rod for it,I mean,ok,he shouldnt have gone for the lips but most people will think,ultimatly, its not that big of a deal but, as explained,this has become,rightly or wrongly, a case for the wider context
