Considered "one of the greatest unsung scientists of all time", he is the first person known to have proposed the existence of black holes, and the first to have suggested that earthquakes travelled in (seismic) waves.
According to one science journalist, "a few specifics of Michell's work really do sound like they are ripped from the pages of a twentieth century astronomy textbook." The American Physical Society (APS) described Michell as being "so far ahead of his scientific contemporaries that his ideas languished in obscurity, until they were re-invented more than a century later".
Too ugly to have anyone bother having a portrait painting done of him:
There is no surviving portrait of Michell; he is said to have been "a little short Man, of a black Complexion, and fat".

If you google "john michell" literally the first search is a portrait of him. Why do you guys do this to yourselves? To justify not improving yourselves? I don't get it

There's no need to go out of your way to find extreme examples when the decline is surrounding us is obvious, but there's also no need to have an unrealistic risk/reward and pro/con analyses. Some self-improvement is necessary, but excess self-improvement is slavery to an enslaving world. What's the reward, exactly?

Game is all about working smarter, not harder.
