It went over my area this evening. Cel phone pics are just a dot in the sky, but a local photographer with a zoom lens got a better view.

China now says it is a weather balloon that went astray, but the DOD says "trust us, it's not, but we can't tell you how we know that." If they can see everything with satellites anyway, what is the point of a spy balloon?

Another is coming in from Canada. It is disgusting that our administration is allowing surveillance craft from a hostile nation to just drift across the country.

This should have been dealt with in the minutes after it first entered our airspace.

But how?

From a technical perspective, it's very difficult for the military to shoot down a balloon which is 60,000 feet in the atmosphere, which is out of range of most air defense systems, and systems were not designed for balloons. Balloons act like clouds or chaff, and systems were designed to ignore chaff. A F-11 Raptor can reach 50,000 feet and can try to shoot it down, but there's a non-trivial chance of missing. You also run the risk of deaths on the ground, which would need to be taken into consideration.

Something tells me the Chinese knew it would obviously be detected, you don't send a massive balloon and expect it to be stealthy. The question is what the purpose of it really was as you say and if it achieved what they wanted from doing this.

What I hear is US forces plan to recover it on touchdown for a look see at what’s onboard…
The purpose? A pre Taiwan sh|t test to gauge the seriousness and reaction time of our current leaders …

They probably used that knife tipped missile that they used to kill the last AL qaida leader that the taliban was harboring. No explosives, just an expandable knife array that slices you apart from the sky.

China is supposedly angry about our deal this week to put US bases in the Phillipines.

Well, if that’s the case and the US military didn’t have the capability of taking out an enemy aircraft within minutes of entering our airspace, it seems that China just found a pretty huge vulnerability in our air defenses and the US should get that resolved ricky-tick.

Also there’s a lot of wide open, empty spaces before South Carolina, and the military should absolutely be able to calculate the exact spot it could have been taken down a long time ago.

I bet Space-X could figure it out.

What can they see with that balloon that can’t be seen with a satellite?

Purpose was to see how US politicians would react and how fast.

That is not a weather balloon. It was reported by pilots who shot it down as a silver cylindrical object about the size of a small car that was cruising along with no propulsion system that could be seen and wondered how it was still in the air.

Think we know what that is, as was the one over Lake Huron today which was similar.

The US Military is no longer trying to gaslight the American people either and claim they are "weather balloons". As if decorated military pilots with many years of experience don't know the difference between unidentified crafts and a weather balloon. How stupid did they really think people are?

That in and of itself is a massive shift, as is the Pentagon(and numerous other countries) admitting UFOs are real and denotes something big is about to happen...they seemingly are gearing up to slowly disseminate more and more information to the public and try and do it as gently as possible as to not to incite panic. I'd say the next few years will be very very interesting in this area and we are probably going to learn a lot about what's been happening for the past several decades.

Ok, but why right now? Is there something they are trying to distract us from? UFO's have been reported for millennia. I agree something big is going to happen, but I think it will involve more than just disclosure (of ET's as well as UFO's). The women are going to get anxious imo and harder to game, but that may well be the least of our worries.

Some have said because they were waiting on humanity to get to an advanced enough point in their development before they could reveal certain things to them. One was that they needed to fully grasp what space really is. Another was our scientific understanding of how the universe works is, well, lacking for a better term. It doesn't exactly work the way we think it does and some bedrock scientific principles apparently are simply flat out wrong.

Or perhaps they simply have been building to this point for decades now and it's just time.

This is the first time since a few days after the Roswell incident that the US Military hasn't attemped to cover these things up. Almost 80 years of lying erased means something is about to really change soon.
