Quitting my Government Job To work with Younger Women

So i work in Government, According to ABS statistics only 17% of Government employees are under the age of 35. I am the youngest person in my office by about two decades, it is absolute hell to try and socialise with middle aged people.

My job pays pretty decently and has some nice benefits but I cannot stand the fact that everyone around me is so old, A lot of people meet their spouse through work yet that is impossible for me. To put it into prespective, my manager for the christmas party suggested we go LAWN BOWLING.

A lot of these people also have no life outside of work, it makes conversations with them really mundane.

Has anyone here quit their jobs to be around people their age?

Being around soulless people is a drain for sure; I know what you mean. I would seriously consider your alternatives and make a logical decision. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but sometimes it is.

Also, you're playing it wrong at work. Those people 20-30 years older than you have daughters, nieces, friends of daughters/nieces, etc. You could get a social circle setup that way.

It's not just women, it's everyone that i deal with. I would still like to make friends from work but it's not easy when these people have literally no life outside of work. Some of them regularly work until 9pm everyday. It's draining for my mental health, these people don't even leave their desks for lunch breaks

I've been applying for similarly paid positions in the private sector and have two interviews next week but I have no idea what the team or office culture would be like. I'm staying cautiously optimistic that things could be better.

I've thought of that but it's so hard to have a conversation with them that isn't surface level or about work. I always ask people what they did on the weekend and they respond with looking after kids or just sleeping in.

My social skills need work yes, but i don't have much to work with here.

It’s a stable job which is an asset in dealing with women. Also the context helps you have a good work - life balance.
Keep your job and start doing things to meet new people and women in general.
You would be the first person I know who quit a good job to meet women….

doing everything wrong really, I saw people to get together in a gym and they started dating, more then once even,

gonna be real here, if you can't make friends outside of work you will not do so on it, also learn to deal with people is NOT hard to talk with older people or younger, also you don't need to toss your opnion on every single convo you have, let then talk, people love to talk, older people even more.

also remember never sh!t where you eat, and that mean dating in office, I don't know where you live, but depending on the work, gov jobs are the better paying, give stability (can't be fired unless you do something criminal) are normally easy to deal with and you don't really need to prove you are produtive(hence why I never heard a gov worker doing more then the minimum), also you are dirty young you will kick yourself when you get older for now I would wait, hell now we still have to deal with aftermatch of covid and a new war.

now tell us what you do off work? that is the time to go after woman and dates, build a social circle should be your worry, not where you work there is only old people

You are in the Commonwealth Public service?....You are one of the Heaven Born....Tell our American friends your working conditions...They wont believe you!...I was a TAFE Lecturer for some years on Commonwealth Conditions of employment...I worked 32 weeks a Year,my week comprised 18hours teaching but as it was in the Evening actually only 12hours contact time...then there was 12hours preparation time a week,this was unsupervised so you came and went as you liked...there were four hours marking a year...then 16 weeks glorious Holidays...In addition there was Furlough,after ten years you got three months holiday...Then there were 10 paid sick Days,maybe eight or nine long weekends,if you were a Female,then you got Maternity leave...Your Superannuation:whatever you paid in,up to 10%Salary,they paid 2.5 times that, when they paid you Severance Pay,it was a Years Salary plus your Suoerannuation contribution and theirs ...Sure conditions have deteriorated and lecturers always did better than the broader Commonwealth service,but still incredible by US standards...You sacrifice this to work with Women?...You may well find that as Kipling warned "the Female is more deadly than the Male".

I'm not sure what it is like in Australia. In the United States, government jobs are cushy, especially federal government jobs. Unlike the private sector, where layoffs are common, there are rarely ever layoffs in federal government jobs. State and local government jobs are more layoff prone but still less of a layoff risk than the average private sector job.

Never quit a decent government job. The hours are often shorter, the layoff risk is less, and you don't often work as hard as a private sector worker.

Yes! Fewer people have been dating in their workplaces since the 1990s.

If you have a career, white collar type job, you can forget about dating within your company in most cases.

The only times where it is ok to date within your own workplace is store level retail and restaurants. These are commonly called McJobs, where job tenures tend to be short and pay is lower. Bartenders tend to date each other and bartender/waitress and bouncer combos are common too.

You could be older and the only good looking and fit one with a libido and that would still be a problem.

Being around younger people would open you up to more opportunities to meet other younger people. So looking for a job not just with younger women but men too would help. New circles of friends to meet, livelier social lives. See what is out there mate.

To add some context, government jobs are not secure in Australia since we have restructuring all the time. It's just an excuse for them to fire massive amounts of people TAFE last year fired 700 staff in one go despite being a government organisation.

Also I'm an external contractor, So i don't recieve any of the sweet government benefits.

Make being around younger people one of your hobbies...Could be an activity or an interest. One of the hottest women to interact with me was a Physical Therapist who does Senor Citizen PT post Joint Replacement surgery. She was 20 years younger than I, has run marathons in 20 states, considers her parents some of her best friends and dances hip hop fitness class like a girl from da 'hood. So it ain't about what age people you work with...

ok fine it almost the same as any other job, still there is no reason to quit a job for woman, now I remember a interview, its old, around 90 I think, then woman would quit they job and go for another looking for a guy to marry her, so of course she was not interested in working or have a carrer, she wanted to find someone to pay her bills, so they would jump jobs looking for it, don't do that, plus did you forgot the whole sexual harasment in workplaces?

It's best for most men to keep one's woman life away from one's work life. This would apply to @Zimbabwe since he is a white collar worker. I could see the benefit of having co-workers close to your own age for the purposes of social circle game. It's possible to be friends/strong acquaintances with co-workers close to one's own age, even female co-workers. You can get introductions by doing that. I never have played that angle in ~15 years of white collar work.

I had a long tenure at one company where I could have done this. I use the word "could" cautiously, because it would have been very uncertain. There was one female co-worker who was 5 years younger than I am and she lived only a few miles from where I lived. She was a 6.5, but she was a bit anti-social. One time, after an extended amount of time working there, I randomly ran into her and her boyfriend at that time at a bar. We socialized for maybe 20-30 minutes and then I went on with my office. That company wasn't a particularly sociable office, even among the unmarried 22-35 year olds who worked there.

There's not much of a way I could play social circle game with my current set of co-workers. The combination of the pandemic + demographics of the people at this work location would make it nearly impossible. I also have been there less than a year.

In a way, I am fortunate in my ~15 years of white collar work that I have not had a co-worker I would rate above a 6.5. I have had cute co-workers, but no one hot. I'm not going to jeopardize my career-type, white collar job for a merely cute 6.5.
