Was Yugoslavia the worst?
For me... yeah. It's where I was wounded... roadside bomb or land mine, never got a complete story about what it was. The toughest thing about Yugoslavia is that there were no 'good guys', I know we turned the Serbs into the bad guys but really there were no good guys, they were pretty much just killing each other. It was the stupidest fvcking thing I'd ever seen. I couldn't tell the difference between a Serb, Croat, or Bosnian. They all looked the same to me, all spoke the same language. It was a stupid religious sh1tshow. As an American, where a vast majority of Americans don't really give a cr@p about your religion, well.... maybe we do, but only a tiny minority of Americans will kill someone over their religion.
Somalia was bad too, but it was the stupid fvcking 'warlords'. It was medieval feudalism... it was gang warfare in cities if we got rid of government and the police. The borders of these 'territories' would change on a regular basis, and you know the lines changed when you started seeing dead bodies on streets... then you knew two warlords were fighting over a piece of worthless dirt. Truth is before I served in Somalia I was a hard core small government conservative... Somalia showed me what no government looks like. We honestly didn't have any trouble with the warlords, you paid tolls to get food and supplies to people, and as long as the warlords got their cut, everything was fine. Then the USA decided we were going to try and get rid of the warlords... that is when sh1t went sideways. We didn't have enough troops to do that and spent three days fighting them. That's when Les Aspin figured out we either needed to send in a couple of divisions or get the fvck out. We picked the later... it was the right call... it would have been just like Afghanistan the minute we pulled out, the warlords would have been back and nothing would have changed except we would have move bodies in Arlington.
