Women that marry men for status and resources often end up miserable. I have seen this many times in my life. My mother married my father because of his professional status. This blinded her. She ended up stuck with a man that is abusive NPD ( narcissistic personality disorder). The money and lifestyle pales in comparison to the other stuff.

I have an ex gf who after we broke up got pregnant for her beta bux. She totally ignored this dude for years and when the wall came closer she latched on to him. Apparently he had access to a ton of family money. Well fast forward and they are no longer together and she is not happy with the situation. The most important characteristic to look for in a husband is character. The money will come if the guy has good character. It's better to live a lower middle class lifestyle and have a happy home than to live rich and be miserable. I know a girl who married a guy who is not rich but has an amazing personality. The same goes for men. We over emphasize the looks aspects of a female when we are supposed to be looking at character. In summary, Karma ends up catching up with many of these hypergamous females. When your base you life decisions on vanity and ego you always pay a price.

it is not that THEY do not want us to climb up. the way to become top 10 or 20% is to demonstrate beating the 80 or 90%. it is NOT how good you are, it is how much better(more dominant) you are than others in view. A number of other posters have been pointing out how winning direct competition is a big plus to our attraction for most women at a biological level.

if the top helps you much, it not only makes you a competitor, but they lose perceived value from women by doing it.

It truly can be quite shocking when you notice how huge and fragile the female ego is when it relates to attention and "being wanted", as you say.

Back in the summer bumped into a few of the 'WAG' type mums and their daughters at a theme park. Really physically attractive (although can tell makeup hiding aging) so may sound odd but did feel a bit embarrassed walking around with them, with their ostentatious expensive bags, clothes and general demeanor of how they held themselves, could tell they were trying to draw attention. Daughter goes to decent private school so imagine their husbands are loaded through their business ventures. Luckily it was late in the day, so went home soon after.
