To be fair, it may be more of a technical limitation with the forum software that may not have a feature like that, that could facilitate it in the way the mods/us want. Plus there are probably other ramifications that a lot of us haven't thought through because we aren't ulitimately held accountable.

The point is not grant a free for all area where to insult each other but simply an area to talk about politics or hot topics that cant be deal in public...not because of the users but because of potential reports given the witch hunt environment in 2020.

Mods, by now most (if not all) of you have seen this posting.

I'm thinking that at least some of the moderators are a bit conflicted; on one hand you have a duty to reduce conflict... and on the other, you also hate being responsible for censoring free thought and expression.

The idea proposed would provide a better balance of the two, don't ya'll (moderators) think?

Currently, I'm wondering why the mods that appear trigger happy to lock threads are now appearing rather 'gun shy' at responding or having a willingness to meet half way. Hmmm....

Well, since you asked. Not really.

As men, (the ones with backbones, that is) we've been known to demonstrate civility as well as have conflicts. To cite an example; conflicts also occur within advice about women. Conflict is conflict, .. Right? . The peculiarity though... is that the heavy-handedness of locking threads appears more prevalent when it's subject matter that appears too delicate for men.

If this is really about reducing conflicts, then why do mods appear to take a blind eye to the chest-thumpers that put down the new(er) forum members? Perhaps the mods are issuing 'warnings' behind the scenes? Not much seems to have changed on that front. I'd think that this would be a higher priority (wanting newer members to feel welcomed) than some old-timers having a measuring contest.

Among the sosuave forum options, there's one called "Anything Else." If certain discussions are locked down, then is this really a place to discuss "anything else?" Perhaps "Anything Else" should be changed to "anything that doesn't upset the powers that be?"
