This combination is a topic that is going through my mind every now and then. I have been talking to my friends about it. And there seems to be a humorous consensus.
The current online dating world is developing exponentially and there is no visible end to it. The usual suspects, meaning Tinder, Bumble etc., favor women for logical reasons. Despite increasingly hefty pricing models, men seem to be addicted to dating apps more than ever. This leads to my first point: Men getting lazy. The algorithms of those dating apps are built in a way that keeps men entertained, whether they match and meet women or not. Boosts, Super Likes and other packages that push you forward in the queue, so you can bee seen for about 20-30 minutes give you a quick rush. You're saying to yourself: "Yes, this time I'll catch 'em all!"
It doesn't matter whether the average man actually achieves successful dates, that result from the app. He feels quite good by matching those attractive women from all over the world with the GPS function that many apps offer now. Combined with the rising perceived importance of the so called "Instagram clout", they hunt for visibility, acceptance and validation. What does that have to do with men getting lazy? Evolution is only possible when we experience hardship and therefore have to adapt to those circumstances, so we can deal better with that environment in the future. But where is this hardship to be found now? Men won't move forward when everything is cozy. And to be honest, they don't want to.
This is where VR-Online Dating comes into play. What if the big players and technology take it to the next level and offer VR-Online Dating, where you can literally meet and have sex with women straight from your couch or bed (while being alone)? You don't even have to get up. If we step it up a notch, we would be talking about AI that can be used in order to satisfy the universal needs of men all over the world. My guess is that many men will use lifelike robots to avoid the hardship and struggle of going outside and meeting real people. As comical as this sounds currently, it will be a realistic issue. Maybe not in 5 years, maybe not in 10. But when it happens and reaches mainstream, I would bet that social conventions and cultural habits will suffer big time.
I have written this post to ignite a discussion with you guys. What do you think? Will society, courtship and eventually evolution suffer because of this?
