The lockdown protests were peaceful, they weren't killing people, looting or burning buildings to the ground. The authorities initially dealt with BOTH of these protests with a "hands off" approach. In the most recent protests however, they quickly turned violent. If they hadn't stepped in after a few nights, there likely would be nothing left of some of our cities. That's the difference. All the police had to do is tell the white protesters to disburse and then they could technically arrest them all because they violated their order and then they could have been charged for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, etc.
By the way, why do the protesters keep chanting "No justice, no peace"? How does that go along with the idea that the protests are peaceful?
It's very clear that there are people with agendas who have a vested interest in making sure black people think of themselves as victims, and continue to do so.It really isn't that mysterious: the party of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow, and Identity Politics needs racial division and poverty to grow, not shrink, in order to continue to exist as an institution.
I thought I made clear I wasn't talking about ancestral guilt, I don't believe in it either. I'm saying that slavery made a mess that we are still trying to clean up, apparently without much success.I don't believe in ancestral guilt, but even if I did, 75% of my ancestors arrived after the Civil War
One term I'm not fond of is "Systemic Racism", because racism is a trigger word, and promotes knee jerk reactions. The term makes it sound like people are deliberately setting up systems to hold people back because of the color of their skin. What it means is there are certain habits in place that promote minorities remaining in poverty or urban squalor. Or why there aren't more black coaches in the NFL. It's not because of any rules or laws, it's a habit of the system. Those habits can be overcome, but it's a very complicated situation. Oversimplifying it by saying "The US is racist" is doing everyone a great disservice and isn't going to solve anything.
