Due to some events the last month and a half, I've come to realize my mind is completely fvcked up and I tend to give it what it thinks is happening. Even though I realize what is going on and I know what I have to do (or should do), I can't fight it. Therefore I do think it's time for me to seek professional help.

But there's this stigma for me, which is of course also a part of my mind playing tricks on me and that's the fact that once you sought professional help, you'll be screwed over for life and can never have a normal life anymore.

So attached is a poll. I've disabled the option "display votes publicly", is this the option so that you can vote and see the results, but nobody else can see what you voted? Just to keep it a bit anonymous.

problem here is, how much you would trust someone to tell what you should do? talking make you feel better? you belive letting someone know your problems will help?

also he can't force you to change unless you do your work, you say you do know what is the problem but lack will power to do something about it, that will not change with psy.

I undertand how this work since I did a little reasearch on it, I figure it was a good way to learn how people behave, and in the end I notice it would hardly have any work on me, first I distrust people, so I would never take what he is saying as true, also note there is a lot of bad professionals around so you could find a lame one. there is a 3rd problem if you did go for it, you need to find a male, like some pointed out females don't do a well enough job for a men, you still have to find a good one.

nad don't worry much for normal life, there is the life everyone like to sell to you they are happy and with no problems, a la facebook, all is love all is well, and there is the true life, with most would never post on facebook. you can keep it a secret if you want.

I had to get a psychiatrist because I was forced to :p. I wouldn't recommend drugs as the answer, you need to face your problems not numb yourself so you don't feel anything. Not that I got any change in mindset from what I was given, though I try to keep control of my will, except feeling tired.

Also forced to go to a psychologist. That was actually a positive experience. He would listen to me talk, and I usually like having an audience. It's basically paying to have a friend in my mind and he was actually nice. I wouldn't tell him about approaching women too much though, once I did he was definitely surprised. But mainly because he was married and I didn't want to mess with his psyche. In the end he didn't really realize who I was, or maybe he did and didn't say, but I would consider him a friend. Of course he likely wouldn't talk to me without money but if you don't care about that you might find a nice person to talk to.

I'm actually sure some therapists care. I almost chose psychology as a minor (1 course away) because of one professor who really believed love could cure disorders.

Many people have their own issues to deal with. A head doctor is no exception, and has the potential to make things even more complicated, or even make matters worse.

I'd suggest going to someone you know, on a personal level.

Small wager that 99% of those who've been to shrinks are DemonKKKraps.
It's better to talk to a therepist than talk to the people around you about shyt that pisses you off or out of your control or to get a different perspective. People in our lives tend to use information against us.

Which events? Even though you realize "what" is going on?

You do realize narcissists are excellent at issuing "attacks" and "slights" in a way that you will look "crazy" for describing it to another.

But there's this stigma for me, which is of course also a part of my mind playing tricks on me and that's the fact that once you sought professional help, you'll be screwed over for life and can never have a normal life anymore.
Are you sure your mind is playing tricks on you? Why do you think so?

I think it's a good practice to have a therepist. For female and family issues get a "relationship counselor", they've seen it all, plus their education was geared for this issues.

Everyone should have a confidant, preferably a mentor. However, unfortunately, too many people get prescribe psychotropes, to feel better, in the short-term, and can end up with bigger long-term problems: wife is sad; gets shrink to prescribe antidepressants, ends up having an affair and getting divorced; Junior is struggling with social anxiety in school, gets prescribed SSRIs, ends up in prison; aging Olympic gold-medalist going through midlife crisis, surrounded by a house full of estrogen, ends up with his d ick in a specimen jar. I'm just not sure a shrink should be the first person a man(or anyone else) goes to, just because he needs someone to talk to.
I felt it was a therepist, so that the person is isolated away from your life and that it is unlikely to take the information and use it to damage you further.

I agree that there are way too many meds being popped. Some people really need them, but they're being pushed by Big Pharma and doctors are being paid to prescribe them in some cases.

However there's also a stereotype of shrinks immediately prescribing meds. The truth is that's usually a last resort - or should be.

Part of finding a therapist is making sure he's a good fit. You can quit one and hire another if you're not feeling it.
In my discussion I was not assuming the prescribing of ANY meds at all. Simply a professional therepist who specalizes in the situation you have concern with, one who would almost NEVER prescribe a med. They listen and provide advice, that's it.
