This is something I've thought about a lot but never got around to posting it. It seems now women either want a buff guy who's overt muscles or a guy with some meat on his bones, even a bit overweight I see a lot around here with overweight guys with decent looking women. I see these better looking women with them more than a slim guy.

It got me thinking because my dad died earlier this year so we were going through is Vietnam army photos for the funeral and when he was really young in the 60s. Hardly ANY of the guys were buffed out like you see now in the army with huge, raging muscles almost roid like. Most of the guys in their 20s were very very slim. fit but very slim. When my dad went into basic he was 6 foot tall and about 125lbs I think. He wrestled in high school and was very active. Just lean muscle. He had no problem getting dates and married at 22.

Apparently this must have not been a problem for women because back then it was fairly easy for any guy to meet a girl and get married.

It seems the late 1980s early 90s this muscle fad started with guys being hulked up. Even the ladies some of them are now. IMO big muscles on a woman is a major turn off.

It looks stupid and childish. Especially when they don't balance their leg workouts. I prefer lean and skinny. The buff steriod look reeks of superficial desperation

I agree. However, you see countless douchebags who look like this and they manage to get the girls.

I agree this is a thing. If a guy is big and looks imposing (dominant), women will often feel safer around him, even if he is a little overweight. I know a lot of women with such men. This is a little contrary to the forum, which seems to emphasize the lean, "shed the water", Abercrombie model look more. Advantageous but not necessary.

Your observation about guys being more pumped up these days is correct. This was not such a big thing back in the 70s and 80s. With the internet, more guys are informed about fitness. Now every male movie star has arms like the Rock lol.

According to my BMI I'm ever so slightly overweight. I don't have any visible muscles. I've been stable around that for a decade. I don't look particularly fat. I think I fit your description of a guy with some meat on his bones.

I haven't noticed my looks to ever be an obstacle, I even get approached by women. Although, I bet if I started working out I'd have pvssy coming at me all over the place. I've got the looks to fit that very well I think, but I probably wouldn't look too well if I get too slim.

I think guys like me get their attention easier because slightly over the ideal BMI looks healthier than a little below, even if there's not much visible muscle. Most women don't seem to me to give that much of a fvck about visible muscles anyways.

Correct. You see that more than the lean look even though the media tends to promote the young, lean look with men the Abercrombie look. Personally, as a guy I think the lean look just looks better, especially when wearing nice clothes or a suit.

Matt Carpenter is a good example of the lean and fit look on a guy. The last couple years even he has put on some meat. That might be just due to getting older as well. He looks a lot better than big douchebags you see.

I was talking to an HB9 on OLD a couple weeks ago. 4 years older than me. She checked my profile out a lot and exchanged replies with me. Basically said I looked fine, BUT said I just looked too young, boyish and wanted a guy with meat on his bones as I described above. Not that looking too young is a bad thing but I think when it comes to a guy they'd rather have one with a beard and big muscle over trim guys who look very young.

Haven't noticed this. Women like muscles but they like slim tall guys first, muscles second, fat third(insecure women).
Being tall makes up for lack of muscle mass in a lot of cases, women probably equate being tall with dominance. They like the slim tall guys and the lean, muscular guys. I think what we're saying is that they prefer the bigger guy who's a little overweight to the scrawny, non-muscular guy. Generally speaking, of course.

Women like hard things. Like a hard dikkk, hard chest, hard muscles

Men like soft things. Soft ass, soft tits, soft thighs

It's just how it is. Accept it and get stronger

I have an alpha type male in his mid 50s at my part time job. He's muscular, works out hardcore. Not super pumped like the guys I mentioned but properly toned. When he was in his 20s he was super slim, more skinny than me. He said girls would always brush him off because he was too skinny. He even tried buying fancier clothes and no luck. Then he started hitting the gym and put on the muscle and he said most of those same girls at the clubs, bars suddenly started showing interest in him. He thinks I need to put on muscle.

How tall are you?

Women only like skinny for really tall dudes. Otherwise, muscular is the way to go.

I’ll tell you what the ones around here like. Tattoos. Sleeves to be exact. Get one sleeve of random **** and you’re good to go. Step 2 grow a beard. Tattoos and beards, I have neither cause I don’t want either. Women claim tattoos tell a story about the person, I have tons of stories and don’t need to ink myself up and down to tell you about them. Just ask if you want to know. It’s mostly superficial stuff women like because women are very superficial themselves.

A lot of it is just technology/drugs/science. Bodybuilding didn't really get rolling until the 60's and 70's. The huge bodybuilder look was not really something you'd probably see in the 50's/60's much simply because a lot of people didn't realize that they were capable of achieving it, and didn't have the drugs and science readily available yet to do it to such an extreme. The people that WOULD have liked to be that big probably just weren't exposed to bodybuilding yet.

It actually takes years and years to put on that much muscle mass. It might surprise you but a lot of professional bodybuilders don't even get to championship level of physique development until their late 30's/40's. Mr Olympia last year was frickin 43, which is crazy. It just simply takes decades in some cases to put that much muscle on. And when you consider that bodybuilding didn't even really become well known until like the 70's, it makes sense that it's much more common to see guys "roided out" like you say. And like i said, we've now had almost half a century to kind of nail down hypertrophy science/diet to the point where many people can now achieve that look if they just put the work in and stay healthy. And again, we also have stronger/more effective drugs, which are widely available to people online and better understand how to use them when doing a steroid cycle.

This could also explain all the heart attacks and such too you're seeing in younger people and not just obese people. I have no doubt all these supplements and such and roids are bad for the heart. You see these conditioned people dropping dead.

If you're super tall being too skinny can be a problem too. Being too tall and paper thin makes you look goofy. When zdeno Chara was young and first came into the nhl he was really skinny and people called him goofy looking and made fun of him. Hes like 6 9 though and is an extreme example of it most tall guys are not 6 9.

Girls like guys who project dominance and strenght, some guys can do it with their height and frame alone while others need to pack muscles.

Personally the best feedbacks I got came while in a lean and mean shape, meaning you can see Im training and I'm efficient but with no extra baggage in terms of bodyfat.

When I was bulky I got more respect overall but no flirting or girls checking me out, also girls dont really understand the importance of a well proportioned body, they are mostly attracted from the upper part.

The worst thing possible is a skinny-fat body, thats the kiss of death.

If you have no leg strength, what good will that do if you have all that upper body muscle and weight pressing down on your knees come your 60s and needing a knee replacement?

Most men should lift, as it is has a huge range of benefits ranging from health related ones, aesthetics and confidence. However, this does not mean that you should strive for the roided up instagram famous people you see, most women actually aren't attracted to that. You don't need to do some crazy bro splits and be in the gym 5 days per week 2 hours each time, most people could be there 2 or 3 times per week and be in an out within a couple hours.

There are also some issues that come with this, though they aren't negative. I'm 6'4" and been active and lifting most of my adult life, I've had some periods of a few months where there were some issues going on so I had taken a break. Anyway, one of the things I have noticed, more so as I have gotten older, is that many women don't even flirt with me and give me attitude. The reason for this has to do with insecurity, most women are out of shape and not terrible attractive, so if a tall and fit/athletically built man comes around she is going to be afraid of being pumped and dumped. Just something to consider.

I think other issues that come with this is the stereotypical gym bro meathead, as long as you aren't like that and actually live a balanced life that shouldn't be a problem. If you have to literally count how many pieces of broccoli you eat or other such nonsense it is going to cost you for sure, most women would think you are a weirdo lol.

And a lot of women on their OLD profiles, especially the half way decent looking ones post on their profiles no gym and muscle pics, shirtless gym pics etc. YET many of them are posting the exact same thing. Showing off their muscles in the gym and taking selfies of it yet bash men for showing off their abs and such. I agree it's silly going over board with the meat head stuff, posting pics of it but then the women should not hold a double standard because they do it more. IMO I find women with muscles like that to be a major turn off.

Being in good shape is good for your own self-esteem. It also shows that you're willing to do what it takes, and that you have commitment. If they don't like it, it's their choice, but I'm not interested in attracting a woman who is going to balloon into a land whale.

The reason for something like that is because a man taking selfies in the gym or in his bathroom mirror with his shirt off implies that he is going to be very focused on himself and his appearance, meaning he comes across as a bit narcissistic. Most women are going to be aware that such a man is more likely to be a player and pump and dump them, so naturally if she is looking for something a bit more serious she is going to steer clear of him. Also, behavior like this from a man is not really a masculine trait if you think about, after all women are the ones who obsess over their own appearance in front of the mirror lol.
