I work in the food industry and I want to qualify that this statement is a bit of a stretch: It's illegal to mislabel foods and the FDA will have your a$$ on a platter if they catch you. That doesn't mean that it isn't done, but when it is done it's because it's either the producer is unscrupulous, or, in the case of a lot of small businesses, it's because the producer just doesn't know they can't do that.
If your on keto you can get away drinking some days because you consume no carbs.
I agree with you that it is illegal to mislabel and misrepresent the contents of foods but in my own view point of the world, modern food companies are in the business of making money and the amount of illegal things going on in most industries is pretty bad. Wall Street is the obvious one but overall its all about making money. In the board rooms, I don't think they are talking about how to make food healthier and improve the quality of the populations health. They are most likely talking about how they can produce on the cheap with cheaper ingredients and increase revenue/profits. If people get sick over time, who cares, that's the healthcare/pharmaceuticals industries problem. The FDA is in the pockets of many big corps and will do whatever they can for big profits. I'm not being controversial, this is just my opinion.
