Well apparently the only source for this information is coming from The Daily Mail. Which isn’t the most reputable for film news, but it’s not the worst. Every websites source within this is coming from TDM.
James Bond isn’t being replaced by a woman. The 007 name is a woman which will be James’ sidekick of sorts, I imagine.
My guess is that they will do a 007 spin off that is a female agent (Lashana Lynch) but then they will seek a new James Bond after Daniel Craig’s retirement as JB. And James Bond will remain a man. As it should as if it changed to a woman, the entire story would be different and for the worse. Much worse.
All in all, it’s a terrible call in my perspective as it’s more about honouring the story of James Bond and a secret spy. If they wanted to do a new spy movie, go for it. But taking over an entire franchise is blasphemy! But that’s me.
And my opinion wouldn’t change if you took any woman lead character in an established franchise and made that character a man. It’s just absurd.
The climate of the world is the way it is and it’s going the way it’s currently headed.
Hollywood is a business and they are simply capitalizing on what the people want. And right now that female empowerment.
Supply and demand. It’s about making money for films.
