Went on two dates this week. The first one was a bomb and possibly a mute. She had her phone out, but upside down. I determined to get out of there pretty quickly, so I didn't care. Her phone buzzed and she turned it over and it said Mom, but she didn't answer. Happily, the waitress just happened to come by and I asked for a check. I left 15 bucks and jetted.

Second one, which there was some chemistry I think, turned over her phone a few times. Her aunt is in the hospital, she's told me on the phone last week, so I let it slide. After the third or forth time I said, what's the deal with ladies not leaving their phones alone on a date? She then said it's my family and the hospital situation, but she then put it in her purse. I used to just say, hey do me a favor and put the phone away. It'll be easier for use to get to know each-other without the digital distractions. I've had mixed results with that.

How does the forum handle this?

That's too passive for me. May work for some people, but I'm far more direct than that. Sometimes it doesn't even take words....if I am speaking and she takes out her phone I will stop speaking and just look at her and when she eventually looks up I will look down at her phone and then back at her. She will get it. If you want to say something just say "would you mind putting your phone away?" If I've been seeing the girl (and sexing her) I have even taken her phone and put it in my jacket while we are out if she tries to do it.

She knows it's disrespectful, so best believe you better call her out on it.

The first one I didn't care for, and was leaving anyway, so I just asked for the check on two sodas and left. The second one did put it away as soon as I brought it up. I was more direct a few dates ago with a different lady, and she got into an argument of me telling her what to do. I said no, it's disrespectful. You can't tell me what to do. I said true, took 10 bucks out for my drink and told her have a good day, then left. I told my buddies that, they said I was too aggressive.

Nope. You give a woman an inch she will take a mile. If they do it once, and it's brief, I won't make a huge deal. But if they start getting on Instagram and texting 3 people or if they take their phone out multiple times, you have to check her. And if she comes back with some bull**** about controlling her imagine what she will be like just in general in the future. It's a good way to screen interest and behavior

Just take her phone, playfully, and safe guard it for the date duration

No you were not to aggressive. It's rude to be preoccupied with your phone on a date.

For anyone who claims 'an event' is causing them to eyeball their phone, consider saying something along the lines of "I understand, personal issues can really be distracting, why don't you let me know when things have calmed down and we can try this again?"

IMO when I am on a date, interested or not, I still leave my phone away because I don't want to appear/be rude.

Fuk the 'youre controlling' comment.

It's not about being controlling. You have standards for the ppl you engage with. if someone's going to start accusing you of being controlling because they have their phone out and are focusing on it, instead of focusing on the exchange between you two, you need to let them go immediately

Just let them do their thing. Doing so lets them show you who they are.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I admit, I get on my phone when I'm bored as well. Bitches go crazy when I do this lol.

If a girl pulls her phone out and spends more than a second or two on it, I leave.

I met a girl with high IL ... I legit reminded her if she needs to check her phone.

High IL girls do not check their phones all day.

Guys, phone for a chick is a security fall back device, they use that thing out in public so that men don't approach. It's same as having her headphones on, or turning her head away when she walk by, opposite of approach invitation. When the girl is out with you on a date and has to check her phone that just means she is not feeling you, although the fact that she hasn't left yet means she'll give it some more time to see where it goes. It's an indicator of disinterest and boring. My guess would be this, up to that point, conversation is platonic and escalation haven't taken place.

Lets be honest and not bullsh!t ourselves here-

If a chick pulls her phone out and checks fb, messages, IG, etc etc on a first date, you are not what she was expecting. If you met her on OLD, she expected you to look/act differently.

Its the ultimate first date sign of low interest.

Only if a chick tells me before hand that she needs to check on something via phone during the date is a viable excuse. At that she shouldnt be on her phone more than to check whatever it is.

I agree with @guru1000 . Get up and walk out. A simple "This doesnt seem to be going well, but enjoy the rest of your evening" should do the trick as you stand up to leave.

I am not going to waste my time on a chick that has mild to low interest and also acts disrespectful. Nah. I have better things do to.

I'm guilty of doing this. I was recently called out by a woman while we were out stating I check my phone too much. I'll admit I am a bit addicted to my phone though. It's honestly not me being uninterested in her. It's just a bad habit.

I just had a date Saturday where the dude left his iPhone and keys on a table behind him (out of his view completely, back towards the items)

While i appreciated the jesture, it made me nervous that someone would steal one or both items. He made it very clear that he was more interested in me, than the phone, and that was why he placed it where he did, and then laughed at me when I said "at least move them to the table beside us"

Geez, you know how to compare dck with bus handle. There is no correlation between show off, look I have a car and expensive phone and I don't give a fck, vs chick showing plain disinterest. How would you feel if I pull out my phone on our date and start checking my OLD messages? Tell you straight up, this ain't going well, gonna look what else is available.

I'm not sure what you are driveling on about. I typed my response to this scenario, and what I would suggest anyone do if presented with this scenario, very early on in this thread
