I can imagine. Been there many moons ago. The NYPD does the best to try and block your application. I just finally hired a 2nd amendment lawyer to assist with my license; as well as my employees who need it. It was much smoother through the attorney route. It's not cheap, but they have connections. I am sure it's similar in Chicagoland too.

Comes down to how they are raised. The democrats, in general, are not the same as the democrats from 20 years ago. Many get elected by bribing voters and giving them free crap that the public funds cannot afford. Then, they just issue bonds and kick the can down the road. Not saying the conservatives are better, as they bulk up in other areas. There needs to be a happy medium where we can meet in the middle. With the socialists and communists growing in the democratic party; that is going to be a challenge. Once they take away the free crap and Kool-Aid, the liberals will riot. When you have nothing to lose, might as well go for broke.

This is exactly the kind of tribal thinking that the bankers, big business, wealthy plutocrats and their friends and agents in the American state and here in the EU and national governments want to foster. Don't look at corruption as a phenomenon in of itself and a rigged, destructive system..... don't even look at other areas of the country where the other tribe is doing just as poorly or worse. Just blame the other tribe's aspirations, but while doing so don't so much as open a wikipedia page about words like "socialism" to learn what a "conservative" or "liberal" or "socialist" actually is, what the varieties are and what the histories are. Just use them like your anti-thinking tanks, business-managed academia, corporate media, and state schooling told you to. And blame students, pensioners, immigrants, poor people, foreign countries, young people, old people, men, feminism, muslims, white people, black people...

Only a select few have the money and influence to make a change like this. They are coming into the political forum; albiet slowly. You been to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars or more in or to stay independent and not accept PAC money. You have a Pres. Trump, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg (will be awhile until things blow over on Facebook), Meg Whitman, and Mark Cuban all entering politics and do not need public money. Though, it doesn't mean they'd win. Linda McMahon, wife of billionaire Vince McMahon spent 50 million or so to run for governor of CT as well as Senator, but lost. Prob. because of her cold and strict personality, but Bloomberg and Cuban are likable, so they have a chance. I think Zuckerberg can move the needle as well; maybe 2024 or 2028. However, with all of that money, comes power, and power corrupts even the Nobelist of people.

I just find it very funny but even more so sad that America, the heartland of neoliberal capitalism with a massive international state machine to make sure it's imposed on the rest of the world with lobbying, media propaganda, financial war, bombings, invasions, coups, assassination campaigns and funding of terrorist paramilitaries is also home to the largest share of people who think that the American state itself is engaged in a "socialist" plot against them. America is about as close to being a socialist country as we are to the Andromeda galaxy and has only moved to the right economically since Eisenhower, who today would be regarded as a leftist radical like the social democratic Bernie Sanders is seen as.

If I mention the term "economic democracy" to Americans, I will just get slack-jawed stares and confused blinks back, while at the same time they have been taught to think neoliberal wall street shills like Obama are socialist. In this way you really have to commend the people who run the American society for this in the fashion of Edward Bernays, they have the good cop-bad cop system with the two political parties down to a science perhaps to a higher degree than anywhere else. They really know what they're doing with shaping peoples' brains and Overton window to prevent thought and prevent perception of reality other than in the way they like.
