Did any of you guys feel better about your life by not having this crutch? Any positive mood changes after withdrawal cleared?

I’m a pack a day smoker and I have never quit before.

I know all the obvious reasons to quit like saving money, much better overall health, stronger in the gym, don’t smell like shyt, etc.

But has anyone experienced improved mental effects or less brain fog?

Are cigarettes for weak minded people?

Ingesting nicotine makes your brain spurt out dopamine and once you stop and are past the severe initial withdrawals, I’ve heard people can become depressed for awhile because their reward system in their brain has to cope with not getting that hit all day and it has to fix itself which can take months.

I’m constantly trying to improve myself any way that I can and I feel like this is a big one for me.

Anyone here got any success stories and can’t imagine going back to the shyt?

Give me some motivation please.

Is there any way to NOT better your life by quitting smoking? I mean I cannot think of a single positive reason why you would want to smoke.

I know I said besides the obvious reasons. Mainly cognitive/mental improvements?

I don’t WANT to smoke, at least not anymore. I’m just well.. ya know.. addicted.

I’ve already quit porn months ago, weed (for the millionth time) a couple weeks ago, and I’m 6 days into stopping taking my adderall which I’ve taken every weekday before work for the past year. I’m stopping it because I feel like it ups my anxiety a little and screws with me socially.

I already noticed today I was more snappy than I’d like to be and normally am but I’m not worried about this one cuz withdrawals only last about 2 weeks apparently so halfway there.

Cigs are my last vice but also the only thing I have to cope with current withdrawals from the other shyt. I’m worried once I have nothing my brain will go into shock and I’ll just be the most unpleasant person to be around lol.

I realize the timing will never be “good” and I simply need to just do it but I have social outings literally every weekend and important shyt to do at work and I can’t escape any of this so it sucks.

The only thing I have to combat all this is going to the gym. Fvck.

How long did your withdrawals last? Did you go cold turkey?

How long till you felt your body and brain had normalized?

I haven't smoked in 20 years. I quit by finding the most disgusting tobacco product possible, and making myself smoke only that. For me, it was Dutch Masters menthol mini-cigars. Whatever you hate most, buy that product only. I didn't make it through one pack. When your brain associates nicotine with an unpleasant experience, it helps you stop craving it.

I quit because I started getting headaches after I smoked tobacco. I took that as a sign from my body that it didn't want that stuff inside me anymore. I still smoke weed sometimes, but I stopped rolling it up in blunts

Yea you're gonna be a grumpy ******* for a while, but it will pass. if it was easy to quit, it wouldn't be worth doing right? Just keep reminding yourself of that

No doubt cigs are tough. I have had a few friends that quit smoking. One did it cold turkey, one took that drug that's always on TV now(can't think of its name...not the patch) and one got hypnosis(Yes it works really well apparently).

I'm not sure any of that really helps a person decide how to get over the habit but I'm giving you 3 options that worked for others

UPDATE: the drug is called Chantix...just saw the commercial again

The drug on TV is Wellbutrin, but it's packaged under a different name for smokers - zyban? Your doctor would know. With this drug, you taper off your smoking so you don't quit cold turkey. By the time the drug is in full swing, you are down to one a day and have no problems giving it up

You can also do the patch and taper down on it as well. The patch can be cut with scissors.

your biggest problem is what are you going to replace that hand mouth Behavior with?

Smoking is an addiction. You have let something come in and Rule your life. You are no longer in control of your own being and body. Is that really what you want?

Good luck

This is horrible advice, but if you only smoke when you drink you can meet tons of girls that way. If she smokes she pokes.

You just can never smoke sober or you’ll become addicted.

I’ve met so many girls through smoking cigarettes when going out. They’ll come up to you and ask you for one, or you can ask a girl for a lighter and strike up a conversation.

Nicotine is a drug, a stimulant, so as a former smoker, I can see why someone would want the boost they get from it.
Of course you're right though, it's not worth the negative effects.

Having a smoke gives you the sensation of feeling calmer. The problem is, the nicotine is causing the stress in the first place. Because as the nicotine wears off, you want your cigarette fix, and then when you get your smoke break, you relax because you got your hit.

I quit several times before it finally "took". Every time I quit, I would get extremely grouchy and irritable for a couple of days (say like days four and five), and once that passed the withdrawal would pretty much be over.

I don’t want it to rule me that’s why I’m trying to kick it.

I was thinking vaping and taper down by lessening the nicotine content over time but that still doesn’t fix the hand to mouth.

Think I might just have to get over that part naturally.

Same, it’s a social thing that can open doors to meeting new people forsure and that’s one of the biggest things I’ll miss.

Plus when I drink I crave them the most lol.

Fvck the pharmaceuticals. Maybe I could try hypnosis but I’d have to look into that more. Is it just one session and boom you magically don’t want to smoke anymore? Lol.

Sigh. Cold turkey seems like the fastest way to get it done and over with. Maybe I’ll chew a low strength of the Nicorette gum to lessen some of the unpleasant withdrawals while my body gets used to not having so much nicotine in my system.

The hand to mouth, breaking that is the second tough part after kicking the nicotine addiction. Get a fidget spinner?

I smoked cigars on and off for the past 6 years . I truly do enjoy then but the toll on my teeth is starting to really show. Am planning on quitting for good. Haven’t smoked in a month and my teeth and gums already look better

I quit smoking over 20 years ago.. I went from upto 25 cigs a day, to complete cold turkey..

No patch, no hypnosis, no nicotine gum. I locked myself up in a room, and kept away from other smokers for around 3 weeks.

It took months for me to get to the point where I stopped thinking about cigarettes..

However one very crucial act, helped me to overcome my addiction.. And that was joining the GYM

Once I joined the gym, it just didn't make sense for me to continue smoking.

I still see dudes finish a workout in the gym, then walk out and immediately light up a cigarette? Where is the logic in this.

Another thing that helps to quit is, to read up about all the TOXIC ingredients that are in tabbaco..

Keep reading again and again.. I guarantee you will think twice about putting that cancer stick in your mouth again.

So how do I feel about quitting smoking, so many years on? Fukin Amazing!

Best thing I ever did.

I picked up dipping about 8 months ago. I did it in college a little and managed to put it down. But I'm at a can of copenhagen a day now. I just finished my first can in a week a few hours ago. I find it doesn't affect my gym performance does like smoking does (due to the nitric oxide resistance from smoking).

However it is super pricey. It's $35 a week at least. When I'm around girls I usually don't do it, but 90% of people my age vape so I'll just make the girl give me the vape to get my fix. But if they have a problem with me dipping I don't really care, most girls say they don't like it but it doesn't change anything. For my health, I'm not too concerned. As far as I see it, dip is so much more healthy than cigs

I used to love smoking, but my ex-wife being pregnant with my son caused me to make the decision to quit. I bought the book "Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking" and that's what finally did it. I tried the zyban, cutting down, nicotine gum, and all that 5hit didn't work. The patch seemed like bull5hit because it's just a different way to get nicotine into your body. Cold turkey is the only way.

On top of that, my ex-wife was a smoker. I quit while I was with her.

I'm now 12 years smoke-free.

How could you not feel better by quitting something thats not only destroying health? I quit cold turkey 7 years ago after 16 years of pack a day and haven't looked back. Now when I smell it I wanna vomit. Soon as I quit I felt so much better that the thought of going back didn't even cross my mind. Ciggs control your life, health and your wallet.
