You guys think it's a waste of money?

I can get a 2014 for like 40K, keep it maybe 8 years and only lose 23K or so. Sports cars hold value phenomenal. The 'vette also gets decent gas mileage, is cheap to maintain (I have contacts at a chevy store for super cheap maintenance) and is actually pretty reliable

Such a gorgeous vehicle. Life is short right. It's not like I'm gonna look back in 40 years and think about the extra 25K I had by not buying this car. This gorgeous thing gets 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. Good lord

Sure, go ahead if you want to. Just do the cost analysis on it, if it’s within reasonable budget. Make sure not to leap at the first car you see. Inspect and don’t be unwilling to back away if you get hints it’s not in decent condition. I would highly recommend test driving one as well - some cars that look great may handle uncomfortably or unexpected. I found that test driving a mustang - imo felt like driving a boat with the nose of it. Wasn’t comfortable for me, maybe great for others.

Secondly, take a month or two to think about it. To avoid it being an impulse decision. It’s quite an expense, and it’s better to not try and fill a hole in your life with blown money. Debt can creep up on you... I’ve been fortunate to avoid that (and have savings), but I’ve seen many others have accumulated debt easily in a short amount of time. Even with very decent paying jobs.

Take your time with it.

the Corvette is massively practical for a sports car

16 MPG city/27 highway.... on a car that does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds (crazy)
it's chevy so cheap maintenance (I have very good contacts at a chevy store that will give me all parts and maintenance very cheap)
holds value unbelievably well.

Way I figure it, let's say I get one at 40K and keep it for 9 years, I can still sell it for 17k. That's like leasing 3 cars in 9 years at 212 a month

I'm sure I would absolutely love the way it drives. The new ones are like European sports cars dude.

I have no debt except about 80K in my mortgage...which will be paid for in 4 years. I have an AWD Lexus GS that I can drive in the winter time or when I have passengers which is totally paid for. I'm averaging around 15K a month this year income wise

Depends on the reason. Are you trying to impress other people? Will this be your everyday car? Why do you want a used Corvette? If you want to really look sweet, a classic Corvette, Ford BOSS (1969 / 1971), Plymouth Hemi Cuda drop top (1969/1970). You get the cool factor and you do not have to worry about depreciation. They usually go up in value; depending on how many miles are on them. If you are trying to say, HEY LOOK AT ME. Yea, the dudes will love it, but I thought you weren't gay? Women, unless they are car women (not that big unless you're in the south), couldn't care less.

If you are doing it for yourself, that's a different reason. I wouldn't do a Corvette though. They're a me too car. Much better options. I think, at your age, it's a waste of money. Try out different cars. You can even rent a Corvette for a few days to see if you like it. If you are in Chi-town, don't get a manual. Also look at other sports cars. 40k is not much to play with if you want to go to the high end sports cars or even exotics. Again, depends on why you are doing it. If you can go to a wholesale auction, you'd do much better in terms of price.

All corvettes before the current bodystyle look like trailer park garbage.

I only like the new bodystyle because it sorta looks like a Ferrari

I also want all the current features (bluetooth, backup camera, navigation, bose) - I will buy one that has every feature imaginable

I have a Lexus GS 350 Luxury Package all wheel drive as a daily driver

What's a better option? I care a lot about looks and nothing looks better unless you're spending 200K (say Audi R8). I don't want to spend any more than 40K (I can get a used 2014 for 40K). I also care a lot about gas mileage and practicality. I'm not buying something that will cost me fortune to maintain or get 7 MPG

You can always upgrade the radio to have those features for about a 1k. You're nuts if you think a Corvette looks like a Ferrari, but whatever you think. And you are incorrect on the old Corvettes. Look at the original ZR-1 from 1991, or the early Corvettes. Much better in terms of looks and value (and depreciation). You should look at the big picture in life, not the little things.. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. You seem to have a bit of tunnel vision in a lot of aspects of your life.

However, you do not take anyone's advice here anyway, so do as you wish. You remind me of another bro from Florida who posts like you...

I'm gonna upgrade the entire car so it has all the features I want (Bluetooth, backup camera, parking sensors, cooled seats, blindspot indicator, I want everything)?

and this

looks better than

]

... you need to get your eyes checked dude. That 1991 corvette looks like complete trailer park garbage. I wouldn't be caught seen in that thing if I was dead. The new 'Vette looks a lot like a Ferrari

To each their own. If it will make you happy, go for it. However, you're mistaken on the original ZR-1. The original ZR-1 is worth more than 45k 28 years later as well. 2014 Corvette will not be the same. If you are hardcore about your finances, then buy a car that will appreciate, not depreciate. This car dropped 60k in 5 years or so? That's a big drop.

Why not join a car club where you can use different cars each week/month? I know they have them here in NYC. I am sure they have them in Chi-town.

I'm very hardcore about financial wisdom and not doing things that are dumb so this is conflicting me quite a bit
A used vette is wise dude. Your quality of life will improve. You'll enjoy your days more having a car you enjoy every detail of and every second your in and around it. It's okay to treat yourself well. I'm sure your frugal enough.

The original ZR - 1 also looks like trailer park garbage with no features on the inside, an atrocious interior, etc...

I'm only looking to spend money if the car is gorgeous and has every feature imaginable. I wouldn't even be caught seen dead in a 2013 corvette, much less previous generations. They're all garbage

no but everybody who has driven it on every review online says the car drives extremely smooth with amazing acceleration, braking and racecar like handling
Drive it. You'll learn to look forward to your fighter jets. The pleasure is incredible. I used to love having all this power I never used. It's awesome such a lift to your life and you work hard enough to justify.

Richardthefrog and his Lambo. Bigdave17 and his Corvette. Now he's listening to Prince "Little Red Corvette". What is next?
