It's not even a question of laziness, we have created a culture of addictive eating and addictive overeating. We are so used to eating garbage and lots of garbage that it's almost an emotional addiction. I even struggle with it myself. I start eating and I don't want to stop until I'm completely fukking stuffed

IMO, if you want to get in shape, you just have to eat as little as possible and then completely forget about food when you're not eating. Remove the emotional addiction

It is laziness, IMO, because it is not so much about how much you eat, but what it is you're actually eating.

If you really pay attention to nutrition, you can eat tons of whole foods to the point of being completely stuffed constantly, while still getting into the best shape of your life. But that takes actual work and effort. It requires knowledge, it requires planning, buying, preparing and keeping track of what you eat, etc.

Most people don't even want to cook at all, even if it's processed junk. It's seen as a chore that lengthens and already long day. They want it right out of the bag, the box, the microwave.... precooked, pre-seasoned, processed all to hell, packed with preservatives, easy, convenient, fast....

It's laziness.

I would never tell a woman she is fat because she "suffers from an emotional addiction".

Fvck that. Get off your ass, plan and pay attention to your diet and get on a damn treadmill, girl.

I can work out 8 hours a day, eat very healthy and lose zero weight

I'm a compulsive eater, I don't feel happy or satisfied until I've eaten so much to where I almost feel like throwing up. I promise you, I can eat 8000 calories a day of steak and meat and fruit and avocado. If you're talking junk food, I can eat 12,000 calories a day of that

Most fat women are compulsive eaters too. The only way they'll really lose weight is to learn to be okay being hungry (or their idea of hungry) which will feel very uncomfortable. The same way you take a crack addict off crack...they will feel extremely uncomfortable. Trust my opinion on this, I was 250 lbs in high school at 35% body fat

I've been trying to gain weight and man it's always been hard. I recently got serious about it and trying to pound down 2300cal a day (up from about 1500) and I'm feeling bloated, lethargic...but I did gain 1lbs in 1 week so it's working...the bad news is I'm mostly feeling it in my stomach (my pants that were lose are now tight in the waist) but I'm going to keep it up for a month to see what happens. I'm also working out everyday.

Dave, I am not saying there are no legit reasons for people to suffer from chronic weight issues, but MOST WOMEN are not suffering from such things. Most are lazy. All the same for MOST men too.

You're wrong when you attribute these legitimate things to women in general.
now see this gentleman below me is the opposite of me and fat women (i'm basically a fat person at heart). He doesn't really like eating at all and has zero emotional or compulsive aspect to eating

He talks about struggling to eat 2300 calories a day. I can eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner (meaning each meal is 2300 calories) and still be hungry. I've eaten 5000 calories before in 1 sitting

There’s a lot to this. And it depends on your definition of in shape as it’s subjective.

Getting in to great shape and maintaining it takes a lot of effort. And for most people drinks and wings with coworkers after a long day is more inviting than going to challenge themself even further at the gym for at least an hour. Ice cream is better on the weekend than quinoa and chicken.
Laziness does play a part. However I think it’s more about what a persons priority is.

Most women don’t need to get in great shape because they are going to have guys asking them out even with a few layers on them or their significant other is already all over them. Plus they’ve been told by all their friends that they are already beautiful, or thicc is in, so many excuses.

Most women who workout that I know simply just value a healthy body and want to feel good. People who do things for other people, or to get an intended external result generally don’t stick to things.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

you can eat garbage here and there and still be in great shape

but you have to massively restrict the calories otherwise and that's very very difficult in our emotional eating culture. We've trained ourselves to want to eat when we're happy, sad, angry, depressed, etc....

It’s not just women who struggle with getting in shape Dave. Being fat isn’t limited to one gender. I see just as many men sitting on their fat asses shoveling crap into their faces. Obesity is a first world problem.

Yes like I said. There’s a lot to this question. Because it’s more than one thing. But that is certainly one of the reasons

I would say it's emotional eating and we've also destroyed our body's ability to sense when we're not hungry anymore because of the over-eating

It's like an alcoholic who drinks so much to where he needs 10 drinks to feel a buzz...well we need an ungodly amount of food to feel satisfied now

You just have to train your body to tolerate the extreme discomfort until you get used to it

It still comes down to staying active, educating yourself and focusing on nutrition/knowing what you eat, etc. It is not supposed to be easy. It is supposed to be hard. it requires a lot of effort.

That hunger signal has quite a bit to do with lepin cycles, which can be disrupted by certain types of foods. It is a common reason why people can eat a lot and still feel hungry.

You lost that weight by taking action, doing work. You didn't lose weight just by sitting in a psychiatrists office.
I lost the weight by learning to tolerate extreme discomfort, forget everything else. I worked out hard when I was in high school and was still chubby fat

For people with small appetites/who aren't compulsive emotional eaters, they have no idea how hard it is to survive on a small amount of calories. For me, I have a constant compulsion to want to eat more and more and more and more.

For me, it is obviously much easier to tolerate very low calories eating healthy but I promise ya, I can demolish a million healthy calories also. I can eat steak and potatoes for hours until I weight about 300 lbs

Dave, you keep blurring the line to support your OP. You're taking a personal issue and ascribing it to the majority of women in general.

When you say "most women", you are making excuses for people who do not have that same issue.

For most, it is an issue of just being sedentary and lazy.

99% of fat women (and men) are compulsive emotional eaters, exactly like I was and exactly like I am now.... I just have a lot of self control. It's a constant struggle. If I stopped fighting myself and just ate until I was satisfied, I would gain 300 lbs in a year

There are plenty of guys at my gym who workout who are chubby fat. Sure they have some muscle, but they are constant over eaters. A slight bit of restricting calories kills them. They can't make themselves tolerate the discomfort of it

You just have to learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable and embrace the intense hunger pains as a sign that you're getting in shape. That's kinda my point

If you're a naturally small appetite dude, you can eat nothing and be fine.

I'm calling bullsh*t on that one, Dave. Show me where you got that number from.

I've spent a lot of time around fat people. That's not a scientific fact, that's my opinion but I feel very very confident in it

I was hanging out with 2 fat girls 2 weeks ago (friends of a friend, they're very nice). Dude they kept getting more and more and more and more and more food at this concert. I guarantee you that was compulsive eating

I can tell you this, there are always more men at the gym than women. It averages around 65-70% male. The days with the most women are on Monday/Tuesday then they forget to show up the rest of the week. Its never close to 50/50 female to male.

To remain in great shape requires the discipline to eat correctly most of the time and work out a few times per week. I feel no sympathy towards fat people. All the ones I know are lazy and lack discipline.

Completely agree. That actually differentiates a lot of people who eat like **** but can still be skinny vs the regular fatties. People eat till they feel completely full, not unto they feel their hunger is satisfied.

Here’s a tip: when you eat, eat while sitting down in the ground. Don’t sit in a chair, sit on the ground, preferably pretzel style. You’ll feel full faster.
It is laziness, IMO, because it is not so much about how much you eat, but what it is you're actually eating.

This is a societal issue. People in general in all activities are lazy, not just women in the gym. Probably why most people suck too lol

I have struggled with weight off and on throughout my life. What sux the most about dieting is that you can't do it cold turkey. People who struggle with alcohol, drugs, gambling, whatever it is can quit cold turkey. AKA do a permanent fast of what they are addicted to. With food, you can't do that. You always have to consume some of the substance that you are addicted to or you starve. A permanent fast would eventually starve you to death.

you don't have to eat healthy to be lean

my best friend eats horribly but is 9% bf. Why? yes he is active but he has a horrible appetite. He feels totally fine eating 2K calories a day. I'm only really happy when im eating 7,000 calories

This is a great post.

I am constantly eating, usually till the point where I am full.

However I make the time and effort to shop for healthy foods..I take the time to prepare meals and cook using healthier methods

Some people come home after a long day at work, and just crash out on the sofa.

Even on my mostt tired days, I head for the kitchen and start preparing healthy meals full of nutrition for the next couple of days.

Another thing.. People who complain, healthy food is EXPENSIVE? This utter horse chit!

If you shop around and make an effort, maybe try out several different food outlets, you can EASILY eat healthy for very little cost.

How much does it cost to get your running gear on and head off to the local park for a run? NOTHING

Its pure laziness in the case of most fatties!

Man cut that **** out. This whole thing is just a way to feed your ego. We get it, feel proud of yourself. But in reality, you were just too weak to control yourself like most others who were THAT much overweight. Most overweight people aren’t 100+ lbs like how Amante said. Most of those people DO have emotional issues. But being 10 lbs overweight is due to lack of exercise and laziness from technology if anything, not because they have emotional issues inside like you do. I can eat a crap ton all the time just like you, and then I’ll gradually feel myself lose control over my hunger. But if I hold myself, I hunger is not an issue. I can suppress my hunger for almost a week if I had to, and thirst for about 2 days (but then I would have to drink something after that). I’ve always been able to control myself with food. But another way was doing extreme fasts with no water too. Over time, my body realized that it wasn’t getting food or water in its system all the time, but that it would EVENTUALLY get it, so I don’t feel hunger and thirst as much as most people do. I logically KNOW that my body is telling me to eat and/or drink, but I’m not dying for it. Like right now for example, I’m dehydrated af. But I still haven’t drank any water today really, and I still haven’t had breakfast. It’s not even intentional. It’s just suppressed because there’s more important things to do right now like running my dog and doing mini-workouts and such. If I’m not about to atrophy or if I’m not about to die, then I don’t need to eat or drink. Don’t get me wrong, it was hard to get to this point, but now it’s not so bad because it’s just the way that my life is at this point in time. It took a HELL of a lot of willpower to originally do it, but didn’t feel hard because I felt that I had to. Do or die mentality mother****er. You need to DO more. And then take a step back and look at everything after the fact, not while you’re still currently going through it and struggling.

There are a lot of women only or mostly women workout centers though, like Curves and yoga places. Could explain why there aren't as many women in the regular gyms, where guys might be hitting on them/bothering them.

Stats aside, I agree with Dave that the obesity epidemic is primarily a diet issue, not an exercise issue.
