Female perspective: I know this may tick off some of you but I think part of the reason why so many women think they are the prize is due to the sexual attention they easily get from men.

Anyone ever see that movie He's Just Not Into You? One of the female characters has an orbiter who she goes back to when it doesn't work out with the man she was dating. She sleeps with him but later admits that she doesn't really want to be with him.
He served an immediate purpose when she was feeling down and when that was done, so was he.
