I'll agree, the end spot is the most important measure but my entire point is, you feel emboldened by having something to back you up. If you earned it on your own, I have way more respect for you. If it was genetically gifted to you or you hit the sperm lottery and end up in a billionaire family, I don't know, it feels kind of tainted to me. Someone hands you a million, it's free and clear, so you have the ability to do what you want with it, I'm not as impressed if you turn it into something. Still a good feat but meh, don't know, have more respect for the person who gets it completely on their own.

No one gets it completely on their own though. Just by being born relatively healthy is a gift of sorts. A lot of guys here seem to take a lot of pride in being good looking. That seems to be as much a genetic gift as anything, but they seem to embrace it as being as much a part of themselves as anything. You can enhance your looks with grooming, style, and good health habits, but that doesn't seem to be what they're talking about. I'm aware I'm fairly average looking, so I don't think these guys realize what a gift it is.

Like I said, we all have to play the cards we're dealt. Growing up in the right (or wrong) city can have a huge influence on who you are. Some guys succeed in business because they knew a mentor. Some had parents who were good sources of advice. Some were able to contribute money. We don't exist in a vacuum.
