What you perceive is in your head, because your brain perceives. In this case I would say that your perceptions are fvckekced up.

Again, people are in most cases normal. However, political -->regime<--, policies, and training does fvck up perceptions. Most simple example are fags. In some countries fag is a sexual perversion, in other countries fags serve in the miltary, bleed the same, and watch your 6th o'clock. Do you perceive men craving d1ck as normal? Your perceptions depend on policies in place, and public opinion. After all, you do want to fit in. You might think that certain minority of people causes the most crime, but if you call them for what they are, you are racist. Public opinion and policies that shape public opinion do affect your personal thoughts.

How likely is it that the DA would pursue a charge they KNOW won't stick?

That way it looks like they are trying to punish the cops, but it's really only a PR move.

That is a very realisric possibility. DA is usually an elected position. My local DA who just retired had a full time press secretary, on the county payroll of course. That person's job was solely to make the DA look good in the media.

I'm from the UK and to compare police forces between the two countries...officers over here are not routinely armed and neither are criminals. It means the situations cops attend are less dangerous on average. If they encounter a man with a knife, the guy is usually arrested without injury to anyone.

It's very, very rare that any criminal is carrying a gun during mundane arrests - usually only really hardcore drug dealers and the like have guns, and they're normally crappy old knock-offs. These events are attended by elite firearms teams.

If memory serves none of our cops have been shot for a long time. Last time I remember a cop killer who was a generic criminal, it was this sick f*cker years ago who gunned down a couple of female cops - he deliberately waited to ambush them like a cowardly chickens***, all because he wanted to kill a cop. He was sentenced to life.

On the other hand, I've seen US police training videos. They are trained as standard to assume that whoever they're arresting has a concealed gun, which is sensible in a society awash with guns.

The problem is that this means any mundane situation, whether it's a traffic stop or a homeless guy stealing a sandwich, is potentially fatal to both the cop and the suspect. At any moment, talking to anyone, cops have to constantly worry someone is going to blow their head off.

To me, that insane potential for fatal escalation in every day situations is why guns are not worth it. It makes the job harder for cops and more dangerous for citizens.

If I get in a fight with some drunk guy here in the UK, maybe if I'm unlucky the guy has a knife or broken glass but he's extremely unlikely to have a weapon that can kill me from across the room by moving his index finger. That means I'm safer, and I can overpower him if need be.

I don't want to start the gun control argument because it only leads to a lot of shouting on both sides, but there's my two cents.

Its the same in Canada although we have guns.

It's a cultural aspect... USA has a culture of violence.

There are statistics going around on FB now how there is around 7 800 students killed on US campus for X years by americans guns/citizens while there is only around 6500 US soldiers killed in wars of the past decades.

Its crazy, how you have more chance of "living" fighting in a war than calling the "cops"

The other countries... Dont "anymore" have that cultural violence (in Europe, everyone who studied history knows that European have killed each other inside and outside for centuries)
