To be honest, my shoulder even feels sore after the band work. It must be really effed up. Feels better overall though, if that makes sense.

Noooo. I've thought about it though, using really light weights. Maybe depending on what the exercise is.
I don't want to mess up my shoulder worse, but I can tell I've lost some muscle mass in my arms. Sux.
In my experience though, it comes back pretty quick. Some sort of muscle memory thing. I just doubt that I'm ever going to be able to lift what I used to.

Well I went back into the gym today, and did some bicep and tricep training..

Only with very light 4kg dumbells..also did some shoulder rehab work.

Right now my shoulder feels fine, maybe its the adrenalin, and the pain will come later..

I intend to heat and ice my shoulder again tonight...

I took 4-5 weeks break from any kind of lifting..

I don't feel like I have lost that much muscle, as I have been eating regularly high protein meals..

I have put on some belly fat tho.. as believe it or not, I ended up spraining my ankle pretty bad couple of weeks ago...

Typical.. because of my shoulder, I thought I could maybe use this opportunity to focus more on cardio, running, squats..

Then I go fuk my ankle up!

Honestly my shoulder's been feeling pretty good the past few days.
It still hurts if it gets into an awkward position, but I think I will start adding in some light weights on Monday.

from my experience, when you go back to heavy lifting, at some point it will flare up again.
Thought I would update this, and your remark here is spot on. If I rest my shoulder (or rehab it with the resistance bands), it seems to heal up. But as soon as I go back to a full weight program, it starts acting up again. And I'm not even trying to lift anywhere near what I did when I was younger, I'm just trying to stay toned. Awhile back, it got so bad that I literally could not lift my arm up past my shoulder. But it got better.

I hope it's going better for you, soulforge. I think I'm just going to have to deal with as a concession to aging. I've read that a lot of older people have shoulder problems, and that surgery is only 40% successful. I'm not willing to try that with those odds, at least not at this point. Apparently it's a very tricky area. It's just frustrating when you want to be lifting but your body can't hold up to it anymore. I'll just have to do what I can do and be satisfied with that.

Hi zeko, keep strengthening the shoulder, with rehab work.. also check out dynamics Blackburn rehab work, its on youtube.. this helped me loads.

Hot and hot cold heat packs helped me a TON

My shoulder is much better than before.. I an not able to lift at the level i used to do before, but i have accepted this is the way it is now.

I'm 42 years old, so things are bound to go wrong.

Even tho i am not lifting heavy, I am still making gains...

Keep up the good work man!

I feel you, for me it's illness though. I eat healthily (though maybe a little too much for the exercise I'm doing) and I swear every time I start getting somewhere I get f***ing ill and it ruins me for like 2 weeks.

And then I come back slightly ill still and end up twisting an ankle or something. Driving me mad.

I appreciate the encouraging words. I haven't really tried the hot packs yet so I'll give them a go.
Honestly, I don't mean to whine about this. I mean, I'm pushing 60. A lot of guys my age are dead. If a few aches and pains are the worst physical problems I have to deal with, I'll consider myself fortunate.

Before this thread disappears, let me add this:

When I was a young man, I was extremely skinny, with narrow shoulders, and a small frame. I had to work out a lot just to catch up the average guy.
One thing we used to hear a lot about back in the 70s and 80s was how women liked men with "broad shoulders". Funny, but I don't think you hear this as much as you used to. Anyway, I had small narrow shoulders. So I spent a lot of time hitting my delts hard. And it helped make my shoulders look bigger, so that's great. But in retrospect, maybe I hit them too hard. The shoulder is a delicate construction, and looking back on it, maybe that's how I ended up with the rotator cuff issues.

I also have some tendinitis in the elbow, but it doesn't bother me as much as the shoulder. The downside of weightlifting is all the repetitive motions. Keep doing that over 30 years, and you're likely to end up with some repetitive motion injuries.
