About 6 years ago I was 16 stone, and it was pretty much all fat. I had some muscle underneath just due to the bulk I had to heft around all day, but I was really out of shape. Too many years just sitting around doing nerdy stuff.

So I worked out hard and cut 6 stone of fat over a couple of years. Put on about a stone of muscle at the same time too.

The end result was that a few years ago with my clothes on especially I looked pretty damn good, my pecs and triceps were hefty looking because I did lots of push ups, though my biceps were a bit lame.

Anyway I upped more cardio and stupidly stopped doing weights. Dropped to 11 stone losing my muscle mass in my arms and legs, got this skinnyfat look. Scrawny arms, still had my belly.

Here's the stupid thing: in the last few years, while I've worked out less, I've noticed that all my fat settles on my stomach. I'm currently 15 1/2 stone, more muscular again but I still have the lower gut of a fat guy and it refuses to budge. I look basically the same as I did at 11 stone, in terms of torso.

Clearly visible 6-pack behind that fat, but still that belly hang you get when you're out of shape...it's weirding me out.

Any thoughts on this? Do I just need to work muscles hard and let the fat shift itself? My diet is good and I don't drink much. Or should I focus on cardio and keep lifting too?

I know it sounds lame asf but it's definitely one of my biggest frame-damagers. I don't want to be utterly jacked, but it'd be nice to know that I'm as lean as I "should" be rather than packing all my flab onto one area.

Hello LessThanSmotth,

As a general rule, if you dropped to 10 stones (63 kgs) that means you are around 1.7m tall ? Please correct me on this one. Generally if you are 1.70 m - you need to have between 70 - 80 kgs; if you're 1.80 m tall - you need to have between 80 - 90 kgs. The weight you should have depends on the muscle mass that you've got.

At this moment you're almost back to the original weight. There are 2 options that you've got and both works.

1). Do cardio (swimming/jogging/bycicle etc) and eat less junk food, but also eat less food per general. Start eating 10% less on every meal for 1 - 2 weeks, then have a plateau and eat the same quantity for 1 - 2 weeks for the body (brain and stomach) to accommodate with your new eating habit. Next: start eating 10% less again for 1 - 2 weeks and then let the body accommodate with your new eating habits. Repeat this until you get to your desired weight.

A lot of people when they want to lose weight, they cut drastically the food their eating - don't do this, unless you want to have crazy cravings and go back to binge eating. You need to lose weight the smart way.

2). The second option that you've got is to workout/bodyweight exercises and also start eating 10% less just as I've described above.

If you go with cardio - you'll lose the weight faster and after you've got to your desired weight you can focus on working out

OR

You can workout and lose weight slower, but build muscle in the meantime. Please be noticed, that as a natural you won't get very buffed - a lot of people in the gym that claim to be naturals - take steroids in small amounts but will never admit it

As a conclusion, there's no right or wrong way to exercise in order to lose weight - it only depends on your outcome.

Crack on

You can't make fat shift around your body, all you can do is burn it off. You also can't choose which part of your body burns fat, you can only reduce total body fat.

As men, most of our bodyfat settles around the mid-section, and this is also the last fat to go when dieting down.

You need to get scientific about your fat loss. Calculate how many calories your body needs in a day to maintain your current weight and then eat less than that. This is one site where you can figure it:

My fat sits on my lower abs. There are some good supplements that work on converting those stubborn fat cells. Look into evomuse Brite... it worked for me.

Fvck off. There's no easy way out of this kind of predicament.

You have to want it. How bad do you want it?

Start small maybe. Deprive yourself of a little of this, then a little of that. Build up to a point where you can deprive yourself of fast food. A typical fast food meal is around half of your daily calories. Do you eat 3 meals a day? Then you're probably well over your allotted calories.

How bad do you want to lose weight? Are you willing to sacrifice? Because you're going to have to.

It isn't easy to lose weight, but it's worth it in the end. You look better, you feel better and you suddenly feel like you can take on the world.

Ask me how I know.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Lol relax.. I know it's hard work. I've been at it since I was 16 now 37. I prep my food twice a week, workout 6 days a week, do cardio every day, Hiit, fasted, done it all. Been all the way up to 280 lbs and down to 177... supplements are just that and there is no easy way. No matter what you need the gym, cardio and diet

Land of slow.
body fat percentage is a real thing. The fact you bring up that there is a skinny fat level. Look at Serena williams' body. You would think she is fat but actually it's some kind of bulky muscle she has put on. Ideal weight with muscle is always between 200 and 220. True bmi can be inaccurate.
