Don Juan
A new girl has joined at work and she isn't just pretty but has a great personality as well. But I have little experience in workplace romance and the unwritten rules.
I don't want things to be awkward so am trying to assess if she is interested before I make a move. But she is hard to read. Our office has a work hard culture so we don't get that many opportunities to talk but when we do it kinda feels like she is flirting with me. Although I since realized that she is like that with everyone even girls. But she has also brushed my arm a few times and sometimes stands too close to me and more recently has adjusted my coat collar a few times saying I looked scruffy.
But on the other hand she always goes to the kitchen at different times of the day from me and takes her lunch later and leaves at different times so it is not as though she is going out of her way to hang out. And sometimes when she catches me looking at her she looks a bit annoyed. So I backed off and ignored her a little but most days she finds excuses to start conversations with me in a way she doesn't do with the other guys.
At the office christmas party she was chatting to another guy in the office and there are rumours about them. A few of us in the accounts team including her had drinks last night and my boss was teasing her about him asking if they were going out but she said he wasn't her boyfriend and she found him too arrogant for her taste and thought he was going out with another girl in the office.
Somehow as a group we started talking about what we thought of various colleagues. She was sucking up a bit to my boss saying she told her mother after the interview how beautiful my (female) boss is and then moved the conversation on to me saying "What about Matthew?" and said "Well he is very quiet, shy and only tends to talk to you if you talk to him first". My colleague who is a mate stuck up for me and said he isn't that quiet and she backtracked a little and said "but he is cool". At another point in the conversation my colleague mentioned I went to an Ivy League school and she reached across and grabbed my arm and said "Wow you must be intelligent if i went there id be telling everyone..you are so modest". And a bit later when the alcohol kicked in while my colleagues were talking we took some of the glass beads out of this jar on the table and started throwing them at me and we played a bit of table football. At the end of the night she went off in one direction to see some friends and i left with my colleagues
