A man can still refuse to pay her meal. It's a bit harder to make this guy pay as he basically ran away. So it is different.

Women don't typically run away, they just sit there depending on social pressures to make the man pay. This guy is basically stealing. I would never pay for or accept being held responsible if a date ran away from the bill. It's the same as going alone and running away, except the food was delivered to the same table as someone else.

I'd only pay for what I had if a date ran away.

I do agree it's ridiculous that articles are written about this, we don't hear about it when a woman does the same. I'm sure some women also disappear before it's time to pay. Maybe it's not that women overreact and instead guys underreact, pay the meal and leave in silence but bitter.

The person who invites is expected to pay. Simple as that. That's common sense rules. You ask a woman out, you should expect to pay. If she offers to pay then that's on her, but a guy should never expect a woman to pay, especially not a first date.

They didn't invite you...YOU INVITED THEM. That means the onus is on YOU because you implied you will be paying for it. How the hell do guys get mad when they invite a women out, imply they will pay for the meal and then act all upset when the woman doesn't pay for herself. Get some damned social sense.

Or if it's that big of a fvcking problem because you are a cheapskate, invite them out for drinks...you should NEVER waste a meal on a first date...drinks only.
