I was watching the third Hunger Games movie yesterday. There is just the hint of a love triangle in this, and it occurred to me that Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) chose the beta male over the alpha.

Gale is much more of an alpha character in the movie, a typical action figure soldier type. Peeta's greatest skill is painting himself like a rock and trying to blend into the background. There is even a scene where Gale has to go rescue Peeta from the capital. But Gale is firmly in the friendzone, and Katniss loves Peeta.

Now this is only a movie, that is true. But the novels were written by a female, and she chose the beta boy to be her hero. Not sure what that means, or if it even means anything, I just thought it was interesting.

By the way, if you ever see any discussion of Hunger Games on a movie site, it usually quickly dissolves into an argument over whether or not it was stolen from the Japanese movie Battle Royale. I say no, but others clearly disagree. I've seen the latter movie, and it seems to belong firmly to the slasher flick genre.

Fun Fact about Hunger Games.

The planets name is "panem" which is taken from the latin, "panem et circenses " or "bread and circuses." The strategy of the roman empire to keep the citizens entertained (free food and gladiator fights) so they wouldn't rise up against their overlords.

The lady who wrote the books had experience in TV reality shows, so I suspect she wrote the books based on knowing which types of "love triangles" would be most appealing to her audience/market.

Regarding the controversy, I think the biggest issue is that she claims she's never even heard of "Battle Royale" and that she was ONLY inspired by the Roman angle. Most people don't believe her, given her experience in TV.

However, the Japanese dude who made Battle Royale was inspired by Stephen King's story, "The Long Walk," which was later made into "The Running Man" with Arnold.

And in the Battle Royale movie, the name of the high school where the kids were snatched from was the Japanese version of "Castle Rock High School," with Castle Rock being Stephen King's' entertainment company, an obvious nod to King by the director of Battle Royale.

The alpha thing is played out, you can make alpha moves but the window to be a true alpha at his pinnacle is so small. Don't get me wrong you can act alpha feel alpha make alpha decisions walk alpha talk alpha but truly your not since their is always another alpha at the top of his game.

You see it with ex-fighters, ex-cops, ex- military, ex-firefighters, ex-construction workers, ex-wall street guys the list go on an on into every field in life even in the animal kingdom. The window to a top tear Alpha is a small and short ride then you get pushed aside for the next alpha that's just how it works. But I'll be damed if I let a beta cuck me

The "new" starwars was bad enough no need to check out the other at the theaters.
Wanna talk about the tv show "the 100" its basically women doing men stuff while we all pretend in a post apocaliptic world 20yrs old skinny girls would lead armies of savages.

it means that the author is either old enough to want a rich beta to control, or ugly enough that she has only ever been ignored or pumped and dumped by alphas.

though there's the vague chance that she's the 1 in a million women smart enough to go for something other than the bad boy

I love that show, most of the females who can fight are literally trained warriors (trained warrior > untrained average joe), and even the main character can't fight that well (especially not compared to the guys) because she has no training.

there's more to a fight than the biggest, burliest man wins, otherwise martial arts wouldn't exist. and there have been all sorts of great female leaders (england had a bunch of queens who lead the country just fine)

I've really been noticing this a lot lately on movies and TV: The bad@ss female fighter who can beat up guys three times her size. The first few times I saw this it was kind of cool, but it's getting to be so common it's getting kind of tiresome. I think if your only reality was TV, you would come to the conclusion that a 100 lb. female could regularly beat up 280 lb. dudes without much effort.

The first few times I saw this it was kind of cool, but it's getting to be so common it's getting kind of tiresome. I think if your only reality was TV, you would come to the conclusion that a 100 lb. female could regularly beat up 280 lb. dudes without much effort.

I mean, i don't have a problem with it unless the woman is shown physically overpowering the man like that nonsense in uncharted 4

anything less egregious than that is okay in my book.
