I think the bigger problem is corporate welfare at this time.

The welfare debate is very contentious. Some people believe they shouldn't pay for others, but I tend to think we live in a society with a social contract, and I don't believe in letting people starve, even if it is their fault (it isn't always their fault). There's enough to go around. We have people here that are struggling and would live far below poverty lines without the help. I tend to look at welfare as sort of a fiscal stimulus. What are we going to do? Ship them out of the country? That's not right. But we can't have a massive welfare state along with a liberal immigration policy.

You know, if you look really close at that picture of Wonder Woman/Gal Gadot back on the first page that Neil posted, she IS wearing red, gold, and blue. It's just that the colors are very dark and muted, instead of bright like Lynda Carter's costume. It's kind of like the way they made the Man of Steel movie look dark and drained of color, which doesn't work for Superman IMO.

But I think it's fine if she looks foreign, since she's an Amazon.

It turns out that productive people are exponentially more useful to society than unproductive people. IT IS NOT LINEAR. For a given company, the square root of the number of employees does the majority of the work. A company of 4 has 2 useful people. A company of 100 has 10 useful people. As companies (or countries) grow, the useful people can't afford to pay the useless people.

When we take money from productive people, we effectively take $100 out of the economy to hand $10 to some ass-hole who will use it to buy cigarettes.

Let loser's kids starve and we won't have losers in the future.

But the $100 isn't taken out of the economy. In your example, that $100 goes to different liquor store owners selling cigarettes, and they have their own rent and obligations that the money helps cover, and it also helps pay the distributor/wholesaler that in turn buys the cigarettes from philip morris.

Well, you don't want to have deflation, which can be just as bad and stalls growth, and you don't want to have too much inflation. A healthy balance is what's best.

Right now we are the leader in AI, though China is catching up. China is going to take the lead on the green energy economic boom if current trends continue.

Where does the universal basic income come from? The Government doesn't create money, it can only take money from someone and give it to someone else.

If computers will take over soon, doesn't that mean we should let the useless people who aren't currently working starve to death, so we can at least have useful unemployed people in the future? Think the robots won't kill most of the people eventually anyway?

Think in the apocalypse the useless people (defined by those who must rely on others to survive) won't feel entitled and go looting?

Some want to force me to pay all the unattractive women and unemployed men to have families of their own. God didn't do it that way.

Anyway, that likely won't happen for another 2-3 decades. You'll be 70 or 80. And it's not exactly true that the government doesn't create money. They can and do through the Fed and Treasury. The Fed creates/destroys billions everyday.

Males have always been fans of the fantasy, scifi, and superhero genres. They've been trying to broaden the appeal for females for awhile now, with some success. I don't see that as being all that sinister.

There's some devious sh!t going on, but I'm not sure this is a good example of it. This is just about going where the money is. China didn't have the economy before to support a lot of movie goers. Now they do, so of course we're going to want to profit from it.
