I've been living in NYC for quite a few years and have spent majority of my 20s there although right now I am away on a business trip. A lot of guys have been hitting me up about NYC so this is my thread telling you all I personally know about the NYC dating scene itself, the women there, and random ramblings about the city.
1. It's like college in your 20s!
If you live in the gentrified areas of Brooklyn, Astoria (Queens), some of the younger areas of lower East Side Manhattan, and especially Murray Hill it is literally like college in your 20s. Being in NYC in your 20s and if you're lucky enough to young in your 30s is like being in college except you have some money now. In conversations, everyone will tell you what colleges they went to.
Much to my surprise, big state schools are well represented. A lot of schools have bars exclusive to them and you commonly see schools with big sports programs flooding up certain parts of the city. Partying, drinking, fun to the extreme, and a lot of exciting events going on throughout the city to rival the feel of even the best party school out there. Very easy to meet people if you play it right and live in the right areas.
People get married very late in the city, often staying single past the age of 30 and quite often, you will find a lot of Dan Bilzerians in the city who work in finance and party hard. A friend of mines says NYC is a city where your 20s never end, hard to argue with that.
Word of advice, avoid anywhere outside of the city itself, it sucks!
2. Prime spot for online dating, better than anywhere in the world.
Most active city for Tinder, Bumble, and a host of other dating apps and such. I think any guy above a 7 with good pics can do well here. A bad place for LTRs but the prime spot for hookup culture and easy sex, go to this city if your goals involve getting laid a lot, the opportunities are there.
You can sit in your apartment and text girls all day, it is by far the best city for online dating on this planet.
Get professional pics done and you will never have to do a cold approach in your entire life in NYC.
3. It's true, it is a city of 7s and if you want some of the top tier women here, you better have some serious status.
As a whole, NYC is a city of 7s. A lot of fit and decent looking women but not that many hot women compared to LA. When you do meet hot women, they are usually foreign (European) or in the modeling industry (head over to Soho!). For these women, you obviously need status in the form of being a part of their world or being a part of the scene where they would party at or hang out at. Women here go for the struggling artist when they are young and the Wall Street guy as their biological clock starts ticking.
Work on finding your scene or you will struggle with top tier talent.
4. Don't come here until you have your life together.
I would say that NYC is the best if you have a nice job lined up, ideally one that pays six figures, and can work out the plan to live there. Believe the standard is you salary has to be like 40x the monthly rent in order for you get some of the apartments in the city, have a plan before actually moving to NYC. Ideally, you go to NYC if you have a path of being established and will have money to spend after rent.
IMO, you want to make over 120k yearly to even consider living in the city, a 22 yr old kid fresh out of college working on Wall Street will make 150k. NYC is the last city you want to be poor in if you are chasing hot girls, obviously some guy here will have an anecdote of his friend that lives in a car and dates super models.
You do not want to live in the boring, poor, or mediocre neighborhoods of NYC where the women are ugly and people are some of the worst you will find in the country.
5. The competition isn't really all that tough.
The average guy in NYC isn't really all that attractive and even in the wealthier areas, you will find a lot of guys who aren't that handsome. NYC does not have a workout culture like LA does and a lot of guys try to woo women by using their big boy job, big boy status, or having some sort of connections in the club/nightlife scene. You will commonly find skinnyfat hipsters and loser guys with hot girls in the city, mainly due to status.
Guys in the city who do well do well due to old money connections and are often pulling the status hungry gold digger types.
Women in NYC don't seem to be as big on the aesthetic male model physique like their LA or Miami counterparts are. I would say NYC is that one city where an average looking guy in decent shape can get laid. Women in general outnumber men and any guy with his life together can do quite well for himself in the city.
6. But the people are some of the worst you will ever find.
Why I mention this is because you will be competing against these same guys when you go for hot girls in the city. NYC guys are often crybabies that will ****block very aggressively when they see you doing well with hot girls, by nature, some of the most envious men out there.
Be ready to deal with the worst of humanity, people in NYC are *******s at best and cold blooded sociopaths at worst. The social scene is a full on Game of Thrones and if you are aiming for the hottest girls, expect to run into a lot of social politics loaded with trust fund bros that embody Machiavellian behavior.
Law and Order SVU gives a pretty good look into some of the sick people you will find in the city itself, I would say go to NYC if you have your life set up and go for a wealthy area. If you go anywhere outside of trendy neighborhoods, get ready to deal with some of the rudest and most annoying people anywhere on the planet.
Back stabbing on the regular, hyper competitive, hateful, bigoted, racist, and the city itself is a highly segregated h3llhole where cold blooded sociopaths are the ones who dominate.
Speaking of race since I get a ton of PMs about that....
7. There is definitely a racial hierarchy here when it comes to what women want in men, it's more clear in NYC than anywhere else in the country.
Younger women in NYC, especially white women, are not shy at all to openly express their preference and if they are American they will make it very clear. Despite the city's cosmopolitan vibe, the attractive American (keyword, more on this as you keep reading) white women in NYC are probably even more picky about a guy's race than their sisters in other parts of the country even if it's the south or the midwest. By this I mean if you're one of the "lesser races", even being objectively high value (outside of celeb status) is going to work strongly against you.
White WASPy men are considered to be at the top despite Wall Street having a growing presence of Asian and Indian bankers.
More ethnic and foreign white guys (Italians, Polish, etc.) are either right behind or in the same boat when it comes to being a hot pick for women. Aussie guys do quite well in the city. White latinos or like Javier Bardem would also fall into this category.
Black or guys mixed with black are at the top and do the best with women here after white guys, I have noticed that a lot of white American women in the city will go right for black guys if they want to go interracial and skip every race in-between.
Latinos are up next, it is becoming more common for me to see them with white girls although it's rarely the blonde types a lot of ethnic guys I know go crazy for.
Asian guys will somewhat struggle but things are getting better for them from what I see.
Middle Eastern, Indian (sorry @skinnyguy you're my boy and all but....), Pakistani, and "brown guys" have it the worst by far. I have heard women of all races, especially white women, regard them as ugly and they are often considered bottom of the barrel in the city to a lot of good looking younger women in their 20s.
8. But guys from bottom tier races can do quite well, here is how. Remember when I said keyword "American" women?
I have Indian and Pakistani friends who have done well with hot girls in NYC, it often requires knowing your demographics well. European women in the city, who are often significantly more attractive than their counterparts, do not care as much about a guy's race as long as his game is on point. Transplant women from places such as the midwest, southern states, and the west coast stats don't care about race all that much either.
In a way, guess the universe unfolds as it should, a lot of the local NYC women who do care a great deal about race tend to be the feminazi types or party girls from northeast universities. Compared to their foreign counterparts and their counterparts from outside of the northeast, they're not as attractive.
So if you're an Indian or Arab guy in the city, you simply:
1. Go for foreign white women and foreign women in general.
2. Go for transplant women fresh out of college heading to NYC.
3. Do 1 and 2 by living in a trendy area of the city where a lot of transplants, kids fresh out of college, and the younger popular move to. I recommend staying in Manhattan itself.
I have seen Indian guys pull hot Scandinavian blondes as well as former sorority girls (from outside the northeast) in NYC, it is rare but it can most definitely be done.
9. It will make all other cities suck once you're done.
Endless variety of women.
Outstanding job market.
Fun parties.
Endless variety of food.
Everything you want literally a mile away.
Fun aspects of life to look back on.
The list goes on. Once you're done, I feel like not much in life will rival the experiences you will have in this city.
