People with green cards have been detained in transit based on country of origin. Honestly, how is that even legal? The ACLU already won a lawsuit for the people currently in transit.

The irony is that now civil liberties groups will go after Trump's ass, and potentially his entire middle east immigration ban will be blocked, including restrictions on issuing visas from that part of the world.

This election was to bring the emphasis back on AMERICANS for once. As long as we have ONE person starving or one veteran sleeping under a bridge, I don't give a rats azz about "Syrian refugees" or Iraqis seeking asylum. Let the filthy rich gulf states like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, and Qatar take them. No culture shock going from Sharia Law to constitutional republic, just go from a war-torn Muslim dictatorship to an organized Muslim dictatorship.

But Trump should have handled this better. Put in an exception clause for the people already booked to come in. You've just created a PR nightmare and given the dishonest press their first "scandal"

Those are countries affected. Use your common sense please. If you are from one of those countries and you are residing in USA and have a green card, why in the world would you go back? Second option, if you won a green card while in one of those countries, I'm afraid you are a security threat, possibly you are.

Now let's say you are Russian, and through legalization received your green card, you might want to go back to see how things are, meet your relatives, etc. That's normal, because in Russia there is no war going on and security forces are doing their job, finding and getting rid of islamic radicals. If you live in Russia and won a green card, why not let you into US, after all you should have a good education and will most likely make a good immigrant.

Picture an immigrant from Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia. (maybe not Iran) What are the chances that you are not ISIS or Al Qaida? I think chances are if not slim but are definitely present. Now what are your chances of good education level? NONE. :)

Iranians have been immigrating in masses (especially since Iran lifted their quotas in recent years), leaving Iran and they've been contributing to the USA economy since 1900's, all the elites are American university trained...But yes, they have been at ''War with the USA and sponsor mid-east terrorism'' however Obama was opening discussion.

The other countries are sure, real mess... mostly due to American interventions

However, none had anything to do with 9/11..... why the countries involved in 9/11 or with terrorism issue are not banned? Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tunisia, Algeria, etc.... none are touched by the ban

CNN now is spinning all those medical doctor students forced to go back ''home'' some probably wanted to stay in the USA, all the athletes who make the country proud etc...

Some of the countries prevent ''jewish people'' from entering... (but its only Iran, Irak that are on the ban list... the rest who are more involved in terrorism are fine)

I really wonder why.... only those countries were picked.

Also if you consider that most of ISIS fighters are from Russia, France, USA, Canada and we let them back in...

Also if you considers that he wants to make it easier for Christians to come in (it will make it easier for mexicans to come legally, thus the wall useless).

So why he keeps some muslim-terror sponsor states free ?

In my opinion, this law makes no sense, for there is no facts known

ISIS is recruiting throughout the world, but most are from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya, Sudan, other islamic countries. As well as from countries such as USA, Canada, France, Russia, and others, as long as there is islam, they manage to twist the holly book of quran, and recruit.

So why he keeps some muslim-terror sponsor states free ?

Preferably you want zero immigration, unless you can benefit from immigration either financially or scientifically. But to ban all pests at once would cause mutiny, thus it is done is steps. Up next should be Mexico, and other central and south American countries. There is no financial nor scientific benefit from those.

Ideally shall remain, Europe, Russia, Japan.

They aren't twisting the Quran. What they are doing is a very plausible, straightforward reading of the texts. ISIS is very Islamic.

Don't be that guy OP. Nobody wants to stop legal immigration. Trump is stopping state-sponsored illegal growth of the Democrat voter base and terrorism. THAT IS IT.

Legal, hard working immigrants will always be welcome in the United States. Freaking idiot lib-tards drive me insane. No facts whatsoever.

Oh, you wonder why he's stopping ALL immigration from these countries. Well crap, we have to stop the flow so we can analyze what's going on. If you want to fix the toilet, you first have to stop the water, right?

Are people really this dense? BLOWS. MY. MIND.

In regards to why some places were picked while others weren't...

This order was based on an order that DHS was proposing with Obama and those were the top places that were picked up on by DHS as having potential future security issues.

Yep. I called it on the 'Grade Obama' thread. We are just getting started with a long string of court defeats for Mr President.

It's hard to tell if Trump is brilliant, or a moron. His executive orders are obviously moronic. But is that just to play to his fan base of morons? Maybe he knows that the ACLU is going to kick his ass in court every time, but doesn't care - he can tell his supporters that he tried to follow through on campaign promises, and blame everything on liberal "activist" judges.

Probably would be the goal... after all Breitbart was all about that... and Obama got blamed entirely for the failure of Obamacare but in truth, the republicans destroyed it peace by peace... making Obamacare just a ''moral step'' towards something JFK was talking in the 1960's

By having the ''liberals'' take it down, he will rally his supporters and from there start taking democrats votes by actually doing meaningful reforms

Sure ignore my question everyone...

WHY DIDN'T TRUMP BAN THE COUNTRIES WHERE THE 9/11 TERRORISTS CAME FROM?
*cue attacking the United States for doing business with bad people as though it is in any way relevant

Person A: Saudi Arabia commits human rights violations and should be stopped!
Person B: And the USA buys oil from them!

#Irrelevant

To answer your question, 9/11 wasn't an attack by the Saudi government. It was also 16 years ago. Since that time the power has shifted from al-Qaeda to ISIS, and the tactics of radical Islamic terrorists have changed. al-Qaeda spent years plotting large scale attacks. ISIS inspires frequent, spread out, lone-wolf attacks all over the globe, not large scale terrorism. And ISIS IS NOT recruiting Saudis in large numbers.

I had a Saudi roommate. Despite being a devout Sunni Muslim he despises ISIS, and that is the message over there. The government and media propaganda is not overtly anti-US. In fact, they rather love us in that country. The pictures of the king kissing various US Presidents are well documented. By contrast, Iran has billboards that say Death to America.

It would be easier to ban israel and declare jews menance of society than ban saudi arabia.
*cue the anti-Semites who want to blame a tiny 70 year old country for 1,500 years of radical Islamic terrorism.

Saudis have cash to support ISIS financially, Iran doesn't, Israel don't have death wish, USA might have an interest, Russia and Europe definitely don't have interest.

It is not enough to have a radical idea, you have to have money. At least enough to pay your ISIS soldiers, as nobody fights for an idea if it's free. Then you need weapons. Then you need propaganda machine, in which US media played a great role with the whole moderate opposition bull sh1t.

Saudis are rich. US might have went along to get rid of Assad.

Thus, the whole Trump idea on fighting ISIS, is nothing more than shifting attention from trying to fvck with Russia, to trying to make America great again. In confirmation of my words, the recent meeting over Syria in Astana, US didn't send a special envoy or delegation, local diplomat handled the meeting, and didn't put sticks into the wheels of peaceful reconciliation.

But shifting back to subject at hand, ban of travel for certain countries. Why would you need a Saudi in USA? Money, because they are mega rich. How about an Iraqi? Can an Iraqi bring money to USA? NO! Can an Iraqi bring science and great mind to USA? NO!

There is your answer.

Pst! He'll ban mexicans after legalization. :)

Precisely, some Muslim countries that have exported terrorism are excluded from the ban. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrainhave been supporting jihadists and the ban does not apply to them.

Apparently, Trump's business interests are more important than protecting the USA from terrorists:

That's what I was getting at: because of how poorly this was implemented when it comes to green card and current visa holders, the entire immigration ban is in jeopardy now.

How is it illegal? They are not US Citizens.
Because the green card visa allows them to travel freely as long as their permanent residence is in the US.
