Few years ago I sat next to this girl in class and she told me to add her on FB. I sent a request, she never accepted and I came back the next week and she wouldn't sit near me again. This girl had fairly high interest to begin with too.
Another one sent me a friend request, I didn't respond to it and she flaked on our date the next day.

Me personally if a girl asked "why should i....." i wouldn't give it an answer. Let her stew. I would just say "alright." Then move on.

Unless this girl is a wife or an already steady you do not want her on your friend list. Keep her at a distance and keep mystery your secret weapon
