Hi

I decided to stop following the daily news events around the world. Simple reason is because it's almost always negative and because due to some recent local events I noticed the press is far from objective and 'molds' the people to what they want them to believe.

I don't know if this is such a good idea, I'm certain I will know the major events in the world because people will talk about it or it will reach me in some way or the other. But what about the rest...

If you have an iPhone or iPad, the latest operating system has a news aggregator called 'news' where you choose newspapers, periodicals and other outlets. Pick the ones you want and it will download headlines and articles from them. You'll know all the stuff you want without reading through 'ain't it awful' crap that is only there to get you to sit still so that somebody can sell you something.

You are absolutely right when you say the press is not objective. All news sources have their own biases and agendas, and present and interpret news based on those agendas. I think that it is also fair to say that some of these sources are more biased than other.

This is something that should bother people more than it does, and its something that has angered me for years. However, in my opinion, rather than burying your head in the sand, you are far better off to educated yourself on current evens by seeking news from a variety of sources. I take the approach of learning all sides of the issue and understanding that the truth probably resides somewhere in the middle. As for the news being depressing, its hard to argue with that. Again, its hard to be an educated/interesting man by burying you head in the sand

It also lets you adapt to a variety of conversations, or play the devils advocate on issues if that's your thing (it's mine).

Google News lets you customize your news to a very personal degree choosing which websites, topics or feeds get shown to you. There are other news aggregation services as well.

It reminds of the custom settings in google news. It works great!

Stick to Daily Mail, mate.

It is the best news source out there, IMHO.

My newspaper is YouTube, if something interesting happens it'll be in my feed or on the most popular list for the day. When I see news on TV or glance at a newspaper I tend to throw up in my mouth a little bit.
