I had two jobs, lost one. I still have to pay alimony and mortgage. I'm a surgeon. Any advice of how to overcome getting fired?

What kind of surgeon are you that makes that little money? You need to look for a better profession.

I know you are surprised but that is average income for a physician in Mexico. That's why we need to have two or three jobs to support a family.

"According to the Time Magazine, an average annual salary for a general practice physician in Mexico ranges from between $39,000 to $50,000 per year. An average hourly wage for a physician in Mexico averages from between $13 to $17 per hour. It has been reported that physicians with advanced specialization and surgeons receive a much higher salary ranging from between $91,000 to $230,000 per annum. An average hourly wage for the specialist physicians in Mexico is around $25 per hour whereas a general practice physician receives an hourly wage of about $21 per hour."

Your skill set demands more $. Why haven't you moved somewhere where you have a higher earning potential yet? C'mon man, you can do better.

Then moving out is the answer. I'll start searching in that direction.
To @amazingswayze Time Magazine is lying. There's no way a general practice physician makes $90000/y in Mexico, even in private practice. All that numbers are just false.

Isn't it stupid that immigration laws apply to doctors? What country is going to benefit by keeping a doctor out?
That's because the upper class protect their incomes but flood the middle and lower class with foreign competition.

I didn't know Mexico had alimony and child support. I guess every where has become feminist.

I NEVER used to believe this kind of crap until 1-2 years ago. But seeing now just how low of a PoS our Government can be, consider this: Why keep a doctor out? Less doctors = a less healthy population leading to less people alive that the Government has to support on welfare/food stamps etc = more money for the Government.

Hmmm..thought things were more lucrative. My neighbor, a Mexican American was riding his atv out I Baja CA a few years back.he came around a trail, someone had strung up barbed wire. Got him real good, nearly curb his left arm, under the arm pit off! Deep cut, chest as well, partner the neck. First thing the doctor said.." do you have $5000?" He swore he could get it and singed his truck over as collateral before the surgeon started, then packaged him for emergency transport to the US. No usa la mordita ahora? ;)

Can you just move to another country, such as the US? I know damn well you will demand a higher pay for that in the US, the healthcare system is booming right now.

My experience with immigration authorities was pre-9/11, back when they were called INS. My wife of the time was here on a student visa, until we got married so she could get a green card. Her family is loaded; her uncle was the former Prime Minister of her country. She was doing a Master's in counseling. She had zero criminal record. And INS never failed to treat her like an illegal immigrant criminal. 3-4 hour hold times when we tried to call them, and then when you do get through, every person there tells you a different story. Our immigration policy is to treat everyone like sh!t, so the people who might actually contribute to society get harassed like a criminal and don't want to tolerate it.

Having lived in Mexico, I'm guessing you are living WAAAAAY beyond your means.

I lived in PUERTO VALLARTA in a 3 bedroom apartment BESIDE THE BEACH for 3000 pesos per month and it only cost me another 2000 pesos for food.

If you were to move to an upper tier city like Guadalajara you could rent yourself a nice house in a good end of town for 2500 to 3000 pesos per month and if you were so inclined you could live in a place like TOLUCA for next to nothing. I rented a 2 bedroom apartment in Metepec for 1500 pesos per month... I think I must have paid 300 to 500 pesos per month for food.

If you are willing to go 4th tier then you could EASILY swing a small house for 500 pesos per month for rent.

I'm from Canada, and If I can make it in Mexico with no experience, no friends, no work and no Spanish, there is absolutely no reason you can't do the same.

You would be an idiot to move to the west, Mexico has more heart and culture than all the western countries combined, not to mention it still has a stable family structure with a government and criminal syndicate that aren't about to let anybody step on the cross.

My other questions are what is stopping you from finding a second job again OR starting a private practice? What is stopping you from moving INSIDE Mexico? Another city and work 2 jobs? I can't believe you are just willing to take it lying down.

Although not completely discarded is not that easy. The hard part would be repeating all my postgraduate education (6 years) because it has no validity in the US. (or in any first world country for that matter)
