New research in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology suggests that anti-gay prejudice may stem from restrictive upbringings and repressed homosexual desires.

I'm sorry - how did they measure whether homes were accepting and loving versus authoritarian? Scientifically? Nah, they just asked for self-reporting by voluntary participants.

So what this study actually shows is people particular to this study PERCEIVED their parents as authoritarian or loving/accepting and answered some questions about sexuality. There is no application to society at large in a study like this. Who knows why these people participated? That's a big problem with studies like this - how was the population gathered but we don't know and the study can't be read without purchase.

Phobia is not a shaming word. Phobia comes from Greek, from Phobos. Fear.

Most people were and some still are afraid of homosexuals, the use of phobia is correct. It was coined by George Weinberg, who is a psychologist and therefore can make new words when appropriate in his field. Now you might consider it a shaming word because many things offend you. That's the language. Get used to it.

Methinks alot of guys and gals for that matter find homosexual acts/lifestyle disgusting and unnatural, a constant in your face reminder of our current morally bankrupt society. But more power to them if theyve found a way to silence the majority who think this with the threat of accusing them of the exact lifestyle they personally find abhorrent.
