Interesting article...not exactly sure how you would eliminate Isoleucine without excluding other amino acids tho...

Also as that is an essential amino acid, what effect would that have on protein synthesis?

Too soon to look into for humans but scientists believe this will translate well and are expected to start studies to see if it holds.

At the same time, Lamming cautions not everyone can switch to a low-isoleucine diet. “Isoleucine is an essential amino acid in our diet — we need it to live.”

“However, many people may be eating a harmful amount. We previously showed that dietary isoleucine consumption is associated with body mass index — and thus obesity — in humans, while other groups have found that blood levels of isoleucine are associated with insulin resistance and mortality risk.”

Meanwhile, he notes that it may be challenging for people to reduce their isoleucine intake as it is prevalent in various foods. He suggests: “It could be that by choosing healthier foods and eating in general, we might be able to lower isoleucine enough to make a difference.”

Another interesting study going more in depth about BCAA's and cell metabolism:

A low isoleucine diet reprograms liver and adipose metabolism, increasing hepatic insulin sensitivity and ketogenesis and increasing energy expenditure, activating the FGF21-UCP1 axis.

Reducing valine induces similar but more modest metabolic effects, whereas these effects are absent with low leucine. Reducing isoleucine or valine rapidly restores metabolic health to diet-induced obese mice.

Finally, we demonstrate that variation in dietary isoleucine levels helps explain body mass index differences in humans. Our results reveal isoleucine as a key regulator of metabolic health and the adverse metabolic response to dietary BCAAs and suggest reducing dietary isoleucine as a new approach to treating and preventing obesity and diabetes
.

That's interesting because ketogenesis upregulates fat cell metabolism causing them to burn 2-3+x as many calories as they normally would.

That’s interesting. I knew about leucine before as its a valuable amino acid but hadn’t heard of isoleucine

Leucine is the most important amino acid. It's the marker the body uses to determine protein levels in the body.
