Of those in the poll, Metallica by far. They single handedly changed late 80's - 90's heavy music without cashing out (that came after Lars went Napster crazy).

Tool, however, changed music forever.

And how did Tool do that?

Obviously, you've never experienced Tool. Do yourself a favor and listen to Aenima, Lateralus, and 10000 Days then tell me your view of life isn't in revolt against the paradigm you live now.

Get rid of all of the fvcking Fall Out Boy crap you kids listen to these days and listen to real musicians playing real instruments.

To KarmaSutra: I abominate fall out boy and all other band of it's genre.Where the **** did you get the idea that I listen to such a crap?Tool is a decent band and I've already heard Aenima but it hasn't changed anything. You think people should adore Tool as much as you do but no way.I already know what real music is and I don't need to learn it from you.

I don't give a good goddamn what you listen to and give even less of a sh!t if you listen to Tool or not. Keep Justin Timberlake in your cd player if it makes you rock out.

You're asking about good music, I'm suggesting Tool as the only band in the last decade who've consistently gotten much better and deeper without compromising who they are.

You act as if I'd lose sleep over dumb sh!t you listen to or don't? Get over yourself.

Metallica out of those easy. I'm a big fan.

I love metal but I also like Fall Out Boy. *cringes in anticipation of a backlash*

They are cool and upbeat, its good to listen to some cheerfull catchy stuff instead of just metal all the time.

Metallica out of all of those definitely! Megadeth are way too inconsistent (but at least they have steady output). Slayer hasnt done anything relevant since 1994 (although Diabolus had some killer songs). LoG is starting to lose it I think. None of those bands have ever created a song as good as Master Of Puppets, One, Orion, Disposable Heroes, sh!t, even The Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me!

My favorite metal band for real is Dimmu Borgir with Between The Buried And Me and Opeth in 2nd.

Metallica here, props to Anthrax as well.

As for my boy Karma, I agree with EVERYONE else, your over rating tool, they might have had that an impact on you but it wasn't the same for the REST of the music industry.

I wouldn't consider them "metal" bands

I would suggest that most of the bands on your list are heavier than the polled bands. I would also suggest that the bands you listed are ALTERNATIVE bands, if you look at the bands polled, they are also from a different era although the lines get awfully close to blurred.

There's no option for Children of Bodom...now that's freaking metal. FYI guys, Tool isn't metal. Neither is Fall Out boy. And Sevendust rocks, I can't believe I missed the opportunity to see them live...

edit...no Pantera or Damageplan either? What kinda poll is this?
