Being natural is, in my opinion, the best way to 'open'. Make a comment about the place/activity you're at, or a person nearby, or something about HER. Pickup lines (or 'openers') are lame/boring and most women, in my mind, would prefer a confident guy who strikes up a natural, interesting (funny always helps) conversation with them.
