im sick of people saying if you run more thne a mile more then 3 times a week you will end up looking like a marathon runner.... it is simply not true marathon runners run extremely far for LONG periods of time they DONT eat 2g protein per lb of body weight they DONT LIFT for hypertrohy either. I have been running for 40 minutes 5 days a week for the past 3 months and doing weights every second day i have been eating 2g of protein per lb of bodyweight about 100g of carbs a day and i havent been counting the fat but it hasnt been much i am taking in about 2000-2300 cals a day which is way below what everybody tells me i have been losing tremedous amounts of weight about 1 kilo every single week for the past 3 months ( yes i used to b really fat) and no it hasnt been muscle loss becasue every single week all of my lifts are going up

now every time i hear someone say if you run you will lose muscle i get angry because its crap at WORST you might hinder your growth but if you can take in at LEAST 2g of protein per lb of body wieght and depending on you body type more overall calories, your body can do amazing things and beleive me my genetics are not that good.

so before you listen to what alot of people advocate for cardio go against what they say to see for yourself because everyones body types are different

and no, HIIT is not slightly better then steady state running it is like comparing a handgun to a semi automatic from personal experience id say HIIT (if your conditioned enough to do it) is an EXTREMELY powerful tool in your weightloss arsenal

Running definitely hinders my progress, don't know about other people.
I still like to run barefoot to keep my feet in good nick.
Speed walking or biking are often a better option.

By anecdotal evidence for Iron Addict and other trainers, for a lot of people, high impact cardio (running) will wear out the CNS with noticeable effects on recovery and affects weight room performance. Eating more isn't going to recover your CNS faster.

Yeah b1tches I used effects and affects properly. IN YO FACE

I agree with ben2. I used to log up to 80 miles per week or more. And running wasn't my only cardio. I'd also swim and cyle every day.

I ate lot's of protein and lifted hard. That was the best my body has ever been at 215-225lbs.

But did you gain weight whilst you did that amount of cardio, or did you stay in the same weight range.

I cut really good. I usually stay around 240 whether or not I work out (just my compostion changes). When I started ultra-high intensity cardio (marathon and triathalon training) I was already pretty muscular.

I didn't notice a loss in musle mass. I did drop a significant amount of fat and looked much more muscular. I also peaked at that point as the strongest I've ever been. I think I could have got stronger but by that point my schedule changed drasticly and I didn't have the time to invest, plus I had already made huge gains in the past 2-3 years of training.

My arms were big enough that I couldn't fit into any of my "club" or dress clothes. My legs stayed the same (I've always had large calves and quads), with perhaps a little bit more definition.

It's my perferred way to train. I plan to go back to it within the next couple of years.

In my particular case, running didn't even make me very lean. It seems my body is a little more rigid in it's set points. I dont lose weight very easily and I don't gain muscle very easily anymore beyond the point that the first 10 years of weight training gave me.

I do like running though and now have ran two full marathons and two half marathons along with a number of 5 and 10-Ks.

Right now i may just focus on 5 and 10 Ks' for awhile.
