And want examples of male TV characters or celebrities, US or UK) who encourage men to act unmanly. An obvious one is the ever-cited Everyone Loves Raymond, or Dr Phil, but I want some older examples too.

Cheers!

The OC.. That new show on fox, about something guy in mid 30s The Winner I think, fvcking AFC looser. King of the Hill. Nanny 911, Friends, Scienfield, The War at Home, any fvcking show thats using a fvcking laugh box.

You gotta remember that AFC crap is fed to us by media. The TV has a specific message "find your one and only love and live hapilly ever after". TV is good at displaying female sexuality, male sexuality not so much.

Try the dude who plays the husband in that old 70's sitcom MAUDE. His wife was a feminist. But HIM, hell, I don't know WHAT he was...but it wasn't much. lol

Great, more eighties and early nineties examples in particular would be welcome.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

The article (for some satirical mag) is partly inspired by Dirk Benedicts recent contention, while in the Big Brother House Of Racist Bullying (actually BB house of chick drama and *****iness as usual, which the media won't mention) that The A-Team was the last truly male tv show, with Real Men running around doing Real Man stuff like building stuff and blowing other stuff up.

To examine his argument, I need examples of these traditional 'macho' male role models from the 70s or early 80s, like Magnum, Dukes Of Hazzard or The Professionals if you're British.

Then I need examples of how these archetypes were forced to confront the rise of feminism/political correctness/changing times in the 80s. For example, Sam in Cheers was the model traditional macho alpha, confronted with the modern liberated woman for comic effect. Here the battle of the sexes was handled fairly at first, but Sam was later written as realising his womanizing ways were a disease, a 'Casanova Complex.'

Similarly in Moonlighting David Addison was written as a tough alpha trying to come to terms with the post-feminist woman. In both series the main characters failed to get it together permanently.

This is the time that A-Team style tough guy alphas start disappearing from our screens. I'd like to be reminded of any shows that bucked the trend (Baywatch? They don't have to be good) or came under pressure to change eg complaints about violence - didn't He-Man symbolically come under criticism?.

And lastly I'd ask for examples of modern shows where the male characters are depicted as unapologetic DJs or alphas. 24? What else?

My main contention is that women demanded a new man and damned the old, then realised they'd been sold a dud but didn't tell the media or the men. Thus they are stuck with the same choice as Satan in South Park when he can't choose between Nice Guy Chris and Bad-Boy Saddam Hussein. And if anyone knows any other neat examples of this dichotomy being portrayed in modern tv, I'm all ears.

ANTI-AFC Fred on Sanford and Son. Too many examples to name that made me laugh.

Pointing his finger at his date: "you dont tell me what to do in my house, dont no woman tell me what to do in my house"
Date: "dont point your finger at my nose Fred Sanford"
Fred: "I'll point my finger at your nose and my foot somewhere else!!"

Oh c'mon now. Joey on Friends was a DJ to the core. And how can you call Kramer and Jerry Seinfeld AFC's? Kramer did what we want, whenever he wanted, with no apologies. Jerry pulled a new woman every other day.
I think they mean the show as a whole.

There are exceptions to every rule. Also, those are the minor charaters in BOTH shows.

I'd also like to add that 70s show.

Friends was a show for chicks. Seinfeld, on the other hand, was completely relevant to the mens movement as it stands in my generation. Pianofingers is right about Kramer and Jerry. Hell, even George got ass by being a total d!ck.

How in the fvck can you say Jerry and Kramer are minor characters? They were the life blood of the show.

That 70's show belongs in the trashbin next to that 80's show. Complete drivel.

I've noticed all the White male characters are completely pussified.

Some of the Black male characters on Black shytcoms still give a little attitude and unapologetically show some manliness...although even they are getting turned AFCish too now.

Then again, I stopped watching TV 3 years ago cuz I got sick of all the shyt on there. So, they're probably all sopping-wet manginas now.

And what about the show Greys Anatomy? This is what society is coming to?

When you're finished with your article you should post it so we can have a good read.

EDIT: What about the show Batman!, Andy Dcik, Mash, Married With Children, Three's Company, Northern Exposure, (What was the show with Pam Anderson at the beach?), Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, King of Queens, The Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, Green Acres, Leave it to ******, (What about all of those happy-pappy fairy tale disney movies that we were forced to watch as children, don't you think that this might be a part of the brain washing process?)

OMG It bleeps out the word "Baever"!!!! Thats ridiculous!

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions to take credit for there. I will indeed show you the article if and when it's printed.

I do think it seems like Jerry Seinfeld was the last primetime leading non-AFC in a sitcom.

Jerry was a hack. Sorry. His acting sucked ass especially with that whiny voice he always had.

Damn he was bland.

80s show? What the hell?
