What do you fellas recommend. Can't get too much, gets expensive. I'm gonna get a pull/chin up bar with dip handles. I can do pushups anywhere. Maybe a few dumbbells? I'm not sure about the weight. Keep in mind I'm just looking to stay in good shape. My heavy weight lifting days are over, as I've had knee surgery and back surgery.

I may get some of those rubber bands or something. Any ideas?

buy an indoor pool and put a squat rack on the bottom of it, youll probably need some scuba equipment too. less strain on the knees.

otherwise go buy a gym membership, it will cost you the same amount of money for a 2 year membership then what you will spend on a worthwhile home gym that you''ll get anything out of. I learned this the hard way unfortunately.

perhaps you could start small and buy equipment one piece at a time as you can afford it.
i would start with something that i would use the most, in case i never had the money to invest into everything i ever wanted.

If no heavy lifting, I'd get (in this order):

1. Power tower
2. Gymboss interval timer
3. Sandbag
4. Weight vest
5. Tire and sledgehammer
6. Homemade dragging sled
7. Slosh pipe (http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1749686)
8. Ironmind adjustable dumbbell handles & some weights
9. Iron Woody resistance bands

Also get like 6 cinder blocks, you can use them to increase the range of motion on certain exercises.
