Women and short hair

I notice most young women have long beautiful hair, long hair flowing down their back. And I'd guess at least 90% of men prefer women to have long hair. It's a youthful, sexy, very feminine look.

But then, when women get older, at a certain age they cut their hair short. I'm just curious as to why they cut their hair short? They are cutting off their glory, you might say. I've seen some older women with long hair and it doesn't look bad. I'm thinking that they cut it because either:

1) They know they aren't young and attractive anymore so they don't want or need to bother with the hassle of taking care of long hair. Or
2) They cut it as a statement that they are aware they older and less attractive now, so they don't want to be accused of trying to look youthful and beautiful anymore, when they know those days have passed them by. They cut it to retain their dignity, they see it as part of growing old gracefully - accepting their age instead of desperately trying to hang onto youth. We all know how women hate desperation.

Why do you think older women cut their hair short?

3) Taking themselves off the market. If men desire long haired vixens, the short style sends a signal, for some seriously monogamous ladies.

Interesting idea. This forum talks a lot about men becoming complacent when they get married, maybe women do the same and cut their hair short because they don't have to be attractive anymore. They've snagged their guy. You'd think they'd still enjoy some male attention for validation though.

The other possibility is that they are not monogamous, they're asexual. I think many older women give up on attracting males, and just enjoy their girl groups and whatnot.

Maintenance and aesthetics. I've always had mine long and tangles are a b!tch. Shot hair creates the illusion of a facelift. For some reason it can also be therapeutic when making a life change. Women's tips for generations.

Maintenance is increased with short hair surely? Colouring, styling, trimming, etcetera.

They probably remove themselves from the race, they notice that they can no longer compete therefore its pointless to run.

Not any different from middle aged guy that drop the gym.

The hassle of competing is not balanced from the results they get therefore they drop it.

I don't think this is happening on a conscious level, because 90% of women do it when they get older. I think it may have more to do with the decline of a woman's estrogen when she hits menopause. Think about that. Women who are lesbians likely have lower estrogen levels as well, and that would lead to them chopping off all their hair as well.

Interesting thought, I hadn't considered that. Lowered estrogen would mean they don't feel the need to engage in feminine behavior so much, like growing their hair long.

I do think long hair requires more maintenance. Maybe not as many hair cuts, but it takes longer to wash, dry, condition, brush, etc. on a daily basis. They have to tie it back for certain activities. I used to try to wear my hair long back in the 70s, and it would always drive me crazy at a certain point and I would have to hack it off. Too hot in the summer, hairs irritating my skin, that sort of thing. Even if it's not more maintenance (though I think it is), it's an annoyance.

Long hair is more effort in some ways, less in others. Short hair requires more trips to the salon to keep it styled. Ditto for colored hair.

I wear mine long (past the middle of my back) and always have. I get mine cut professionally at most twice a year and never color it. I also never curl it or roll it. The only thing I use is a blow dryer to partially dry it.

Salons make more money off maintenance of short hair and dyed hair. Women can be influenced by their stylist. So I think that is a factor too.

Validation that they get from their long-term guy. Short hair perhaps decimates the unwelcome advances of legions of thirsty guys out there.

I don't think that women ever really get tired of feeling attractive to men in general. It's true that the thirsty guys can become tiresome, but they'll still feel good if the right guy looks their way - married, monogamous, or not.

But, you do offer a possible explanation for women cutting their hair short, so I can't discount it entirely.

I remember reading somewhere that women did it when they were subconsciously taking a masculine role. Eg. if the dynamic in a relationship was structured so that the guy was submissive to the woman then she'd adopt more masculine behaviours to fulfil this role, one of which being a change of appearance.

I suppose this supports the idea doing so as a lesbian and menopause.. since there are hormonal changes. Not sure if it's true though.

I see or notice more, women have lower hair quality and sometimes quantity, just like men as they age. To the point to where I really notice an older woman who really has healthy, thick looking hair, no matter the length. I think cutting it shorter masks that effect somewhat. I love a woman with a full head of healthy, shiny hair. Hair so long, full and beautiful that you want to just get lost in it.

The ones I've known who shorten/cut their hair do so because it quits growing and stops looking as nice as it once did. The other reason I hear is they get tired of spending the time it takes.

I wouldn't be with a woman with short hair. That's a deal breaker.

Just so long as there is enough to clench in my fist when I an farking.

I go with the the thin hair issue. Long thin damaged hair looks awful.

I don't think anyone ever gets tired of positive attention from others whether it is sexual or not.

The thinning hair issue is probably a factor. Younger people usually have thicker, healthier hair.

Just thought of another possibility. Older women get gray hair and have to dye it. I'm guessing it costs less to dye a short head of hair than long hair. Hair dye can also damage hair, and they don't want a big ugly mop. Some women just let their hair go gray, but I don't think this is an attractive look for females.

As a man who dies his own hair, I agree that most women don't look good with gray hair. Even salt and pepper. It makes me imagine gray pubes, even though pubes were outlawed in the late 90's. :D

Short hair in a western chick is cause for concern, IMO. There are exceptions of course but the probability of a girl having a feminist outlook is sort of higher in girls who do that weird short hair sh*t. Unless she's Japanese.

Short hair on a woman = "I've given up on my sexuality and convenience has become more important". That of course does not include feminists who are an entirely different level of insanity.

I've already told my women that short hair won't fly in my kingdom. She knows full well she'd have hell to pay if she cut it short. Since she's an authentic woman, she's more than happy to oblige me.
