Will this amount of cardio hurt my gains?

I'm picking up a weight lifting program where I'll be lifting heavy three days a week, focusing on all of the compound lifts and such. I'll be eating about 2500-3000 calories per day to start with, mostly clean foods, with over 1g protein per pound of bodyweight.

Right now, as it stands, I'm in pretty bad shape. I'm 6'4", 180 lbs, but skinny-fat. In addition to these other changes, my buddy and I decided to start going out jogging a few times a week. Basically just a light jog for a few miles. I enjoy the jog, not necessarily for the health benefits but for the jog itself. Will this jog routine nix/screw over my gains? Thanks.

Any cardio slows down gains but I think your diet needs more attention. 1g per lb seems too low to keep progressing on the big compounds.

It really depends. Your muscle is made of 3 types of fibre. SuperFastTwitch, FastTwitch and SlowTwitch. SFT is used for extreeme intensity with very high weight but the fibres crap out after about 3-6 reps. FT crap out after 8-12 reps with moderate intensity and about 1/2 the weight. And ST can be used for a very long time, >12 reps.

Doing cardio uses ST (eg. a long slow jog) so unless you are training your ST fibres in the gym also... you wont see any difference. It will however increase the recovery time of the other fibres by a bit since they are also used during cardio.
