my opinion: This chick will get her pound of flesh one way or another. Hopefully she is sexxing the sheet out of this schlub.

Here is a depressing comment on this article:
I watched a friend destroy his 401K and other investments to pay off debt accrued by their spouse while she was in collage, way before they met. They ended up divorced, her debt is paid and his retirement is gone.
Wow, just WOW! :mad::mad::mad:

Yeah I paid for some of my exes stuff as well. Amazing how easily you can be convinced “this time is different”.
My rationale at the time was that she had earned it but not doing anything like that ever again. At least it wasn’t a huge loss. Got a good lesson out of it

I don't think there is anything wrong with financially supporting your wife. I do think there is a problem that a wife would EXPECT her husband to pay for her own loans that originated prior to her relationship with him. "Just because....hey, we are married!"

The sense of entitlement is the major issue here.

It’s also a problem when she sits on her ass and doesn’t even work. I mean for real, if I’m going to be the sole money earner I’m going to have ALL the say over how the money is spent.

I don't disagree with you if all she is doing is sitting at home watching TV. I don't think she necessarily needs to be bringing home a paycheck, but she must be contributing in some way. Watching my brood and taking care of everything they need, taking care of the house, cooking meals, etc. This is a very 1950s sort of ideal, but IF she did that, I am fine with her not financially contributing and with me still supporting her.

I married during college so the first payments of both our Student loans occured after the Wedding date. I can honestly say Debt is general is a horrible ingredient in trying to have a rewarding relationship. Kinda like Garlic in a milkshake.

I am proud that I did a "debt snowball", renegotiated some of the other debt, and got it all paid off while trying to run my own business and work a job with benefits. But "Poor people have poor ways" and she got herself right back into debt just a couple years later.
That was when I said enough is enough.

Now I'm, making sure the financial life is in order before I share a financial identity with a woman.

You'd still be taking care of the house in other ways with your time, labor, or money. It's not like she'd learn plumbing, or roofing, or auto maintenance. Still kind of a raw deal, when a guy has to do those things and be sole provider.

I know due to the way females are wired, it'll never work out, but in this day and age, it would make more sense for guys to stay at home, do all the typical stuff, and also the fixing of roof, electrical, plumbing, mechanic work, yard work ect. While females work to bring in the money. That's an even split.
I knew a guy who did this. His wife was a nurse and he was a stay at home dad. Quite the faux alpha but it obviously worked for him

I wonder if he controlled the finances that she brought it. I would think it would work if the man has solid frame. If I were to do it, I'd be controlling the money she brought in. I'd do personal accounting of her income to make sure there's no secret bank account that she's stocking up, or spending ten grand on shoes, and handbags. I'd let her pick the frivolous spending(within reason) allowance that we would both abide by, and I'd enforce it.
Yeah you’d have to be like Iceberg Slim imo

And wifey, as the sole proprietor of the Golden Vajaya, is going to have ALL the say over how access to that is given.

If she needs money from me it means she fully support a 1950 family pattern where the guy pays and the woman obeys.

Personally not my cup of tea since I got used to hook ups culture and I'm fine with the low commitment/low trust scenario.

Yeah I always like to say that true equality is women killing their own damn spiders, opening their own damn jars, and paying their own damn way
