I am sure most of you believe in God wheter you are Jewish, Christian or Muslim. The older I get, the more I realize that having faith or happiness in worldly things only make you end up being dissapointed. Things like how many hot girls you can get, material things and money are nice to have, but you can never be fulfilled. The more I jerk off, the hornier and more frustrated I get and the more enslaved I become. Just look at all these rich people or stars or kill themselves eventhough they so called "have it all." Look at all the pro athletes making millions and that usually is still "not enough." If you guys have ever watched the movie Wall Street Gordon Gecco is the prime example of avarice. The guy makes millions a day, yet he is still never satisfied.

I recently got rejected by a girl I liked and I am hurt. I feel depressed because alot of my friends have girlfriends and I do not. However, I realize if I keep getting my hopes up on "earthly" things, I will always end up feeling dissapointed.

The good news is, God never leaves his sheep when bad things happen. Your relationship with God can never be taken away no matter what happens. God will never leave you if you are sick, lost all your money or lost your home. Therefore, put your faith in one who will never leave your side, and do not too much emphasis on worldly things.

I agree with your thoughts on spirituality. In a society built upon greed and material possesions don't expect much support.

i am always amazed at how my preacher never has a bad day. He always has his head held high. Very don juanish.

people have different definitions of what a true DJ is...but i believe that you cannot be a true DJ without having that strong spiritual part of you because spirituality is moral.

spirituality ties in a lot with being your true SELF...your true humble SELF...and that is a hard concept for many to grasp...and even for those who have been able to understand it...it is a challenge attaining it.

you can still live your ****y/funny/many women/enjoyable activities lifestyle while still being spiritual...it's just the way you see everything around you that's different...and it's also the way you see yourself (or lack of).

I accept your idea of having spirituality like I do to the fact that I'm a male. Although, remember that not everyone will agree wtih you as not everyone shares the same views about life outside what we percieve as "reality".

May the force be with you ;)

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

lol, may the force be with you =) .
I believe in some predominant power, not necessarily a "man" refered to as God but nonetheless some higher power that I believe our minds can not understand.
I chose not to believe in an organised religion because to me it's all bogus. I don't believe in religion because religion sets boundaries on your life.

None the less, believe in what you will, wether it exists or not. You will feel more trusting and confident with the higher powers on your side.

I believe that looking at the higher powers as higher forces is counter productive. I like to see it as somewhere equal. I see them as "people" who gladly lend or take away their help. I live much happier this way.

I agree with what you're saying to some extent, but personally I think the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) all set you up to hate yourself. In each of these religions, you're taught to rely on some God that there is absolutely no proof of. You're taught blind faith. Isn't one of the major tenets of being a Don Juan non-attachment? These religions go completely against that and require you to attach yourself to God.

With that being said, I still do believe in God, but I practice inclusive eastern "religions" such as Zen Buddhism. Eastern religions are more concerned with the individual seeing the world for what it is and living as prosperously as possible. Western religions, on the other hand, basically state that the world is f'd up so be good and you'll be saved. So, the difference is where happiness is. I'd rather have it in the present here and now rather than after I die. Of course, this doesn't mean I live a life of "sin" by any means...I just try to live for the moment.

You're entirely right, though. Existence is futile if you take it too literally. Don't take life too seriously or you'll never get out alive!

I suppose you would have to never had experienced christianity to realize it's not blind faith. God becomes very real to true christians. It is amazing the things he does when you ask him in prayer.

Going along... no proof?

Please tell me you believe in evolution, so I can bash that thoery straight to hell where it belongs. VENT~ Ok no seriously, if you don't think there's proof of "creation" rather than "evolution" check out ... www.answersingenesis.com ... it's a whole website devoted to proving the bible is truth. I suggest looking in the Q&A section. Explore around you can find lots of information on there

As a side note, if anyone wants to discuss religion(part. christianity) with me please let me know. I am well educated in this stuff!

RabbiT
No offense to your religion, man. I actually still consider myself a Christian to some extent, but I don't cling to the idea of God anymore. Evolution? Shyt, I dunno, who really does? Actually, though, I believe strongly in a creator.

What I was saying is that as a Christian, you have to attach yourself to the idea that God will save you when you die and I just don't buy that. I believe in another life after death and I believe that what you do in this world may very well determine your fate after you die, but I'm not going to attach myself to someone else's set of morals that got passed down.

I've found I'm much more happier and living more freely since I've begun studying Zen Buddhism (which is not really a religion BTW so feel free to investigate its practices, it's a philosophy not mutually exclusive from Christianity). Let me give you an example. If I were to tell a lie to someone and it really caused me to hurt that person, a Christian would consider it a sin. A Christian dwells on imperfections and asks someone else to save them, give them pennance. I don't see the purpose in dwelling on errors like that. It just makes me unhappy. Now, I've learned just to take it for what it is. Yes, I lied, I did something bad, but it is what it is. I can't change that. Let me become a better person instead of asking God to save me.

I have a lot to say on this topic, but I don't have the time to express myself right now. Let it be known though that I'm not arguing against the core principles of any religion. I'm arguing that practices such as meditation and detachment are wonderful!

Some baby are labelled "Christian" without having made the choice no?

When you refer to god, you refer to what? I would say the only true thing we can say, is that "it is the thing we do not understand and we label it God". A lot of people justify themself with God and I hate this. When someone does not understand something... i.e. the Sun, they label the God of Sun (Egyptian stuff for exemple). The same go for most God I heard of. We do not know how it was before it was "NOTHING"... then we say it is God. Then God is a magical concept that should mean something like "the force that we can't explain that did something we do not understand its origin".

However, you still use "if" in your sentence even if you believe in that God.

Believe in something help in practical... because you do not worry in something... it is a trick that work.

You can also take the bible or anything else as a philosophical book. You can accept part of it and not accept other. It has been written also by human, therefore there might have been error, misinterpretation, etc. You are NOT FORCED to accept what I said... but I believe what I am saying there can't really be evaluated as "wrong". The only justification most people can give, is "it is god", "believe in god". Why you believe? Chance are it is because the society educated you to believe or what. You can take a children and put him in front of the Microwave for 5 years and then say, this is god, praise. And if you play it good... even if later he grow up and know it is not god... in his mind it will always be special and he mights be tempted to praise in front of the micro-wave. Human nature or smth.

LOL "Let's take this outside!"

PHAT Rabbit: if you'd like some lively banter on the subject of evolution, check out one of my favorite discussion sites:

http://www.iidb.org/vbb/index.php

and click on "Evolution / Creation" you are sure to have a great time!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As long as people have been able to talk, they have argued about religion. There are PLENTY of other sites on the web devoted to talking about this stuff, so let's gently guide this back to the DJ Tips kind of realm.
So Mahon, personal belief systems aside, it sounds like you're advocating an aspect of Buddhism (Not the whole system! Just one aspect!) that says that suffering stems from desire: eliminate desire and you eliminate suffering. Is that what you're trying to say?
To relate this to DJ philosophy, eliminating desire - if not necessarily the key to eliminating suffering - is at least the first step to not being overcome with desperation which we all agree is very important. And here's the part where I highly recommend "Tao of Steve" it's a great movie with a lot of truth and is pretty entertaining, to boot!
As for spirituality being important in relation to being a DJ, it is important in that it lets you be a well-rounded person (which is good) and helps you connect better with others (ie women) who share your beliefs.
Does anybody else have an opinion along these lines? Or other insights?
Why not yourself, because you are currupted by sin.
See what I mean...an essential point of Christianity is to hate yourself! Not my way of living! Since I've begun studying Zen philosophy, I've been a much happier person and that's all the proof I need.
Ok to reply.
- I have not read the entire Bible. Nor do I really read it except maybe excerpt while I was at school long long time ago.
- You know I even thought of reading it lately as entertaining and to see...
- I might not have read it, out of interest, but who know once I start.
- There is a lot of story which you can't prove false. There is a lot of thing we can't prove. If I say to you that 2000 years ago, x days that a man walked 200 meters and fight with a gorilla and beat him. How can you prove otherwise? I personally believe if there is magical stuff chance are it is like poem and it is illustrated exemple... but I have not read it and I won't do comment. I won't do comment like a lot of Christian (I am not saying anything against nobody, maybe I am one, maybe not.) try to justify themself with stuff that has not been said, and that maybe does not honnor people.
- Question: Is everything been proven to be true too?
- "Why has all the prophecy in this legendary book been fulfilled." -> ALL? Do you have a list of them _ALL_, you know logic, I am sure... and _ALL_ mean _ALL_
- "Explain to me why the bible is the #1 Book on the New York's Bestseller list every stinking time it comes out?"
----> Ok, it is the thing that most people are forced to be as they born and are teached as kids. There is a lot of interest in the bible of course because it is one of the most discussed subject and with a lot of fanatics or also a lot of curious, I even thought to read it, to know what it is all about.
But then again, I ask you, can 1 million person be wrong? (insert any number you want :))
Is the Bible the best selling book in an asian country? Is the Bible the best selling book everywhere?
And I do not accept your "NO." See sometime that is the problem, some people try to answer for us. Not that I do not do that sometime, however.
It can be considered ordinary as the definition : "Commonly encountered"
But it is not if we judge of quality maybe, in the sense that it was *probably* well written, etc. I won't go further on a word... else it will be just playing and not discussing :D
- "Infact it is more credible then the very books your teacher gives you every time you begin a new school year."
---> You are babbling without know stuff. And what if I study in religion and the teacher give me the bible. You talk too fast and your comment is way too easily... you are infatuated by the bible.
- "Seriously, ok you believe in hell and satan... then you must believe in a God and heaven"
---> I dunno, all this can be all image, I NEVER SAID I BELIEVED IN HELL AND SATAN. But there is good thing because there is bad thing, else everything will be considered equal!
You are expecting stuff without me agreeing. You are coherent later, but at first the base you are claiming is all wrong. Therefore elimining all the rest of your persuasion. That is the problem... you have to blindly believe at first, then the rest might be ok (I suppose). But the first thing is just that supposition.
- About reading it. I will probably one day. If I have the time. I am willing to read it. I believe there is good thing I can learn from it. Etc. :)
- What the heck? The bible was written by God now? (Maybe you claim he tell other to write it...)
- Two people writting stuff with logical link can happen even with generation far far away. I am sure what I said today, someone else might come up with it in 10 days. In fact... I wrote a tips today, then did a search and someone else wrote something very similar, just said in other word. Was it god?
- The Adam and Eve story, is probably just that a Story, to explain that we often do what we should not do.
- And the earth is moving too no? I'm not an expert, I just suppose that. And what about the other planet? Are you saying god is just related to Earth? Uh oh? What if one day we found out other planet system? What will you say? it is god of course...
- Also, I am not trying to say anyone is stupid or what, I am just trying to understand if I be convinced then be it, if not then I am always OPEN for discussion. ;-) I want you all to know that from now on. I just too often find no convincing answer when having religion related discussion, nothing but premism that are not proven!? Or answer like "it is god", and that mean nothing. I can tell you it is god to all the post that is on this board. "God chosen it". And me believing or not, it is God that chosen it! I am there to test all you God believer, because god wanted I test you.
I'm not religious. I don't believe in God. Does that mean I can never be a DJ? I think spirituality is great and all but what you say is ridiculous.
I do, however, agree with mahon. Too many guys right now are too busy trying to rack some miles on the dyck not paying attention to the fact that when they die they'll be useless as fawk. I mean, a celebrity is no more than a cheap tool for a corporation, you do sh*tty stupid work, get paid mad money, but have to live your life secluded and constantly worry about your popularity. The only affirmation is shallow sycophants giving you props. A human being with dignity has to have a noble purpose.
Christians, like myself, have a very hard time answer the points Objectivism brings up. (Objectivism being the philosophy of Ayn Rand.)
Mahon : "Therefore, put your faith in one who will never leave your side, and do not too much emphasis on worldly things."
Absoultely!
But you've got the wrong 'one', the only one who will never leave you is YOU, I've also been reading into Zen myself and I am finding it damn interesting, ir's a practical, rational practise for finding balance in what I consider to be the Mind / Body conjunction known as Spirit.
People who look for external things for motivation and peace will never find true fufillment, you have everything you need already to be happy and fufilled, you just have to learn where to look.
"I am sure most of you believe in God wheter you are Jewish, Christian or Muslim"
Hahah, I am sure most atheists still believe in God, most of the atheists I know are angry cynics who are so pissed off at God they claim they don't believe.
Phat Rabbit : You are Ulsterman under another name ain't ya?
There can't be two people on this forum who share this exact same type of stupidity! :D
"Hmm.. Infinity you cannot be a christian and believe in Zen Buddhism. That's like a toad saying it's an elephant... they're is no such thing."
Erm...no - what the **** kind of argument is that?
Zen is not a religion, it is a life practise, it teaches most of the morals of Christianity in different ways.
Actually a more accurate version of your false analogy would be it's like calling an elephant by another name, 90% of the effective techniques in Zen can be incorprated into your life without clashing with a 'real' religion.
It's greatest truths are not religious truths - but practical ones.
Damn I'm starting to ****ing preach here...anyway, give Zen and Buddhism a look at see what you think, if you like it then great. If not, then it's no skin off my nose, mmkay?
Infinity : "I agree with what you're saying to some extent, but personally I think the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) all set you up to hate yourself."
YES.
As was once mentioned in a post by the aforemention moron from ulster, Christianity / Islam / Judaism preaches that man is inherently evil and a sinner blah blah blah.
This is probably a good reason why Evolution has been disregarded by the churches,not that it excludes the concept of God (God could have started evolution) but it provides a justification for the conception of selfish acts.
Due to the fact that our survival instincts promote selfishness as a form of self-preservation, using the naturalistic argument that evolution provides (I.E our natural drives have remained in our genes, but now we have MIND, which can control body pretty well at the best of times) it is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE to justify selfish acts in terms of the fact that BODY is selfish, the church does not like this at all.
It prefers us to prostrate and feel guilty.
You could argue that the church seeks the annihilation of body and the agrandisment of mind, thanks to the way human beings are created - that is NEVER going to happen.
"Due to the fact that the robot (the body) is three billion years old and can't be killed."
Robert Anton Wilson.
When body and mind are in balance, creating what the traditional Buddhists call the 'true nature of MIND', it is easy to control selfish and somewhat cruel acts(cruelty incidentally is an aspect of unbalanced mind rather than body incidentally), without feeling guilty for them, which in itself is a bad thing.
Some good discussion at last!
It's just a shame that they are nearly all over by the time I see them, being about 7 hrs behind you Yanks! :)
Hahahahhahaha Lionheart, that was your 666th post. I was just starting to like Zen, but that makes me wonder :D
I like how you summed it up. Most religions look outwärd to some other source for happiness and fulfillment and, thus, people are disapointed in their lives. In Zen, you look inward to yourself for your own happiness.
