Why do women wear makeup?

Well, why do we consider girls that hide their beauty with paint as more attractive? Could it be that we have been brainwashed by the media, too?

It´s the same as a girl with fake blonde hair. There is no logical reason for us to believe she´s hotter than a girl with naturally blonde hair, but we still do.

The question still remains why we think that makeup enhances a woman´s beauty when in reality the truth is that it´s nothing but paint on a face that actually covers up a womans natural face.

To go along with Danny's point number three- I heard somewhere (probably on this board) that women look nice, dress up, and put on make-up when they go out to look better than the other girls. They don't necessarily want to look nice to attract guys, they just want to look nice enough to attract more guys than the next girl.

its like natural selection. we were made to fornicate, and fornicating with the most or more genetically superior individuals of your own species will give your offspring the best chances of survival.

like the other guys here said, its so they will look better than their competition for guys. even if its only a tad bit.

Notice how alot of girls will not wear or wear as much make up once they are married or LTR. but they still want you to say that they look so amazing without make up. even if you have to lie.

there is no question as to why they wear, they cant help it, its in their genes to look and portray beauty so that they trap the best male to mate with. simple. even if it means putting up a facade to achieve this.

besides id much rather sleep with a girl that puts in effort to look good.

Make-up just enhances their looks. Just like when guys style their hair, shave and ect... But, its not good when, they put too much on.

Im under the impression that it could be a variety of reasons as mentioned by some of you but each women has their different reasons and the majority of the time its:

a) To be "better looking" than all the other girls in whichever area they attend be it a dance, dinner, club, get-together

b) To hide their blemishes and look/feel better

Those 2 reasons are why MOST women put makeup on.

Just a question, if one is in a relationship with a girl and she is always putting on makeup does this mean she is putting herself out there in the "marketplace" for other guys to approach her or would it just be a case of her trying 2 hide her blemishes? What do you guys think?

I think it's more personal taste whether you're attracted to it or not. i think maybe a scale would make a bit of sense here.

0 = Girl who doesn't wear makeup.
1 = Girl who wears a bit of makeup. (cover minor blemishes, whatnot)
2 = Girl who wears an average amount of makeup (lipstick, facial stuff, maybe a subtle eyeliner)
3 = Girl who wears alot (doesn't go out without a good 30 minutes in the washroom getting ready)
4 = Girl who looks like a clown (we all know one or two)

Think of it as a variable when rating a girl. if a girl looks like a 8 without any makeup on, Jesus christ get after her!

But this also goes in the reverse, that 7.5 you hooked up with last night is looking mighty 5 this morning :|

I've seen girls who look more beautiful without make up and I can't understand why they wear make up.
Also one of you posters before me said it's to make them more beautiful looking than the other girls. I think if a girl doesn't already have the natural beauty she's not going to look better than another girl in make who already has a better natural beauty than her.

i do not wear makeup that often anymore.
i am older and i have children and i work and i don't have time to put the crap on.
when i was younger i did it to hide blemishes and zits, but it only made them worse. when i stopped wearing it, i no longer had things to cover up.

now i only wear it for special occasions, when i am expected to dress up.
