A new girl got recently hired at the HR department of the company where I work. Some might consider her a knock-out; others might think she is too superficial. Anyway, she was not really under my radar. One day as I was walking past her, she said hi to me. I have to say it's very customary in this company for people to say hi to each other. I did not make anything out of it.

The next time, I saw, as I was about to say hi to her, she looked away. I don't say hi to anyone who looks away when they see me.

Another day, as I was sitting in the cafeteria having lunch, she looked towards me and smiled, I smiled back and said hi, just to realize she was just talking to someone sitting behind me, she actually came and stood right next to me and had a little chat with that person that was a new hire. She just wanted to know how things were going for that person. She did not say a word to me.

Next time I saw her was at the cafeteria getting some hot water, she came by and said hi and stood next to me to get herself a coffee. So I asked her name, she gave it and asked mine. She even asked me which department I worked in. She got her coffee, said have nice day and left.

Finally, last time I saw her, I was standing in the cafeteria when she started walking towards me. As I was about to say hi to her, she looked away again, walked past me, said hi to someone else and had a little talk with that person, got whatever she wanted and walked away again.

My interest in the girl is low, I am more curious to know what this behavior might mean.

It doesn't mean a damn thing.

You're just reading too deeply into simple, everyday interactions.
Specially in a work environment.... Sometimes there are stresses and deadlines... You can develop a tunnel vision of sorts.

Next time get her number and ask her out...

maybe she is on her period, who knows?
why are you even wasting your brain cells on her? the workplace is not the place to be doing this kind of sh88t
just go to your job, do your thing, and leave.
in jim cramer's words: "i am not here to make friends, i am here to make money'

Probably this. She likely doesn't even know this is happening.

Reading too much into things is certainly a problem I have, lol. I always over analyse the smallest details about everything, but that's just the way my brain works.I will move on.

Could be a million things. Just take it as it goes and not worry as much. Women do this because they can. Your job as a man is not not let it get to you. Start with a little small talk and see where it goes. Always make direct eye contact, and speak with a calm, low key/normal tone like nothing she says or does has any effect on you.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

Are you the senior analyst of this company making 6 figures motherf**ker? Didn't think so.

Are you having sex with her? Of yourse you aren't.

Go to ignore her ass mode. She wants attention. Catch flights, catch Pokemon, don't catch feelings.

Case closed.

Workplace interactions are extremely insignificant.
What you do after work is what counts.
